To my understanding, its one of the last Sega Saturn games from Capcom (next to FF Revenge). The SAT port was supposed to be canceled after they announced development of the game being shifted to DC, tho it was released on both platforms in the end.
It def looks better than the DC version in terms of its visual resolution and has some additional extras. I can't decide which of the two sounds worse in the audio department. DC version still loads faster than and has no framerate dips.
If the SAT port was considered the definitve version, it was eventually surpassed by the PS2 port in Alpha Anthology.

This version was literally the only one I've hadn't the chance to play until now. Not a big fan of Alpha/Zero 3, but it sure is nice getting some actual hands on with this version of the game.

A lot of purists prefer the Saturn version over the Dreamcast version because it runs at the same resolution that the arcade does. (Might be an option in the menu, in any case, the DC version lacks this option and it shows as the graphics look just a bit off. Not as off as Vampire Chronicle does compared to VSav on the Saturn, but it's still noticeable.)

Correct. There is an RGB mode as well as a mode to swtich from Console screen display size to Arcade. I wish more Capcom fighters on SAT had the latter option :(

The only thing I don't like about the Saturn version is that the music cuts out abruptly after matches (it fades away in other versions). Other than that it's perfect.

Yes. I quickly noticed that as well. But I think it cuts off early because the game begins loading in realtime perhaps to avoid a loading screen after matches.

Lag also has a lot to do with the TV itself. Hence why many units have a gaming mode which reduces this a bit.

I'm in a SS mood. Might break out Grid Runner tonight.

Been playing a ton of DonPachi and Gun Bird. Also been trying to get into horizontal shooters so I've been spending a little time with In The Hunt and Darius Gaiden. I want to like them but it just feels so weird to move up and down rather than left to right. I dunno. Maybe they'll grow on me in time.

That was to a comment several pages back :)

I've been wanting to play two of my SS titles lately, Clockwork Knight & Command and Conquer. I need to jump into those. Such great games.
