aaron: Thank you! I have a chance to get the game for a reasonable price. Wonder if this port got the same treatment as SS port of Area 51. Regardless, the fact thatcit supports the light gun is a big deal for me. Thanks again.

I'll agree with Hobie. Seems like a lot of us are in the same boat.... grabbed titles a few years ago for a reasonable price & now other titles that were around the same price range back then have shot up. Not pick on this one example, but Three Dirty Drawves consistently runs $30-$45 these days.

Although above $25 in the US, Power Slave/Exhumed is awesome. I have this one. I dig the Egyptian setting & the controls remind me of Quake.

Robot Pit & Cyber speedway are great cheap-o's! I found Robo Pit locally for $7 CIB & had cyber @ one point but traded it. I think the Virtua Cop, Daytona, &Sega Rally games fit the bill really well.

Another fun cheap one is Alien Trilogy (~$20 CIB). I own AvP on the Jag & IMO Alien Trilogy on the SS is much better.

Also, you can import House of the Dead from JPN under $20. I need to get on that along with many cheap other titles. I imported Christmas NiGHTS for $10 CIB :) love holiday themed games.

... on a side note, really wish we would have had a main Sonic entry. Mass produced & cheap today would be fine :)

@billy, one of my friends who is not into games ALWAYS raves about Baku Baku. She only had 2 or 3 SS titles when we were in high school & she still plays this one. I need to grab it.

@seven, NBA Jam TE is never a bad choice! PSX & Jag versions are expensive these days. Good reason to grab the SS port. Those 3 are the best console ports IMO.

... prime example of price jumps.... Sega Ages can go for $100 CIB. It's a Working Designs title

all while you can get the JP standalone releases of Space Harrier, Outrun and After Burner for about $20-30 total.

I'll second Daytona USA, and add the Championship Circuit Edition, which improved the graphics greatly, but at the cost of that awesome music. It's basically a director's cut.

There's also Mass Destruction and Quake. Mass Destruction is a game where you play as a tank and perform super-secret government missions (aka blow crap up). You'll have a blast. Quake, on the other hand, is the best console port of the PC classic available. It's got all four episodes completely intact, and it turns out that I love to use the Saturn controller for this game. Way better than the Nintendo 64 port.

Interesting. I always assumed that the N64 version was the best console port. I will have to look into the Saturn version now based on your recommendation.

The Saturn port has pretty much everything from the original PC games, outside of the deathmatch arenas; the Nintendo 64 has a bunch of levels cut, and the remaining levels have bits cut out of them, but includes the arenas. Also, the Saturn game uses the same engine as Powerslave (meaning it looks great, for a 3D Saturn game, even including some damn good lighting effects for the time). The Nintendo 64 game seems to use the original engine; however, the graphics seem to be stripped down a lot more (they're certainly a lot blurrier). And finally, the Saturn has superior audio quality.

...which is critical in a game where Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails did the music and sound design.

Thanks again or the recommendation, and I will be certain to add this game to my collection soon.

Not entirely sure if these are still cheap, but I think a nice rounded collection should start with:

Panzer Dragoon
SF Alpha (1 or 2)
Layer Section/ Galactic Attack
Darius Gaiden
Gunbird or Strikers 1945 (both JP)
Parodius (or Gradius) Deluxe pack (both JP)
Astal
NiGHTS

yeah those are pretty much all $25+ each at this point for a nice CIB copy :(
