Like a few others on here, I have multiple Sega Genesis systems. Currently I have 4 total (2 model 1 and 2 model 2). I also have 2 32X add-ons.
I have 2 Xbox 360's as well, but that is on purpose (my wife is always playing Uno).

Don't go out of my way to (except NES toploaders. Always buy NES toploaders at reasonable prices) but I have a few dupes. Usually bought as part of a lot where I want to get something with it or given to me free/nearly free from friends.

3 NES Toploaders (1 composite modded, 1 soon to be component modded), 1 front
3 SNES regular (I think 1's broken), 1 mini
1 PS2 phat, 1 slim -- and a coworker just today said they have a PS2 they'll give me
2 GBA SPs (that's intentional, I want 4-5 -- 4 specifically to go with my GCN, maybe 1 for a main system)
2 Genesis 2's
2 N64's
2 Atari 2600's (both 4-switch, 1 S-Video modded -- some might call them altogether extraneous since I also have an S-Video 7800)
2 Game Gears
2 PSX's, I might have a PS1 too I'm not sure
2 3DO's (an FZ-01 that's USB modded and an FZ-10)
edit: 2 32x's

I used to have a spare Atari 5200 and a spare 7800, both of those have found new homes. I used to have TWO spare Colecovisions, those have both found new homes. I used to have a spare Saturn, paid it forward and gave that to a friend just like it was given to me -- honestly kinda regret that, I'm always paranoid of my Saturn breaking. I think that's it.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
Cheat sheet of my collection, always looking to increase it. 405/677 licensed games, 46/"95" unlicensed

I think right now the thing is(at least for most) is one of the two:

1.) Extra systems for redundancy and travel
2.) Collection of variations

Right now I'd probably be considered in the first when I get around to it...I would really love to have that nes gba sp though...that thing looks amazing

I did have several backups but kept the best condition console & sold the backups to save space & fund the purchase of games.

Cash in hand, more room in closet lol.

I don't currently own any multiples, but I've been meaning too.

A few years back my PS2 stopped working so I had to get a new one. Well it's been a few more years and I've recently been sort of worried that my PS2 might go again at some point, so I plan to eventually buy a brand new one while they're still cheap. Eventually I'm sure I'll do the same thing for my other consoles, or at least the ones I can't bear to lose.

3 NES, 2 SNES, 3 Genesis, 4+ Game Gear, 2 Dreamcast, 2 PS2 plus more

So in short no I don't. I really don't see the need to have them but I kinda just accumulate doubles from buying craigslist or garage sale lots. I do keep a few extra things around like my extra genesis because there different models or some are missing wires and I wouldn't want to sell them with anything missing but on the whole I don't see the need to horde a ton of back up consoles.

My extra consoles are also displayed nicely long side my gaming collection though.

I've recently gotten the mentality that if I'm going to invest a lot of money on my game collection, then I want to ensure that I will always have a system to play them on. Especially since disk based system are prone to wearing out sooner than a cartridge based system. So, I want to ensure that I have at least two of every system. If I can get that, then I'll be good. But, after that if I run across a heck of a deal on another system I'll probably buy it but won't be compelled to actively look for extras.
