Do you guys hoard systems?

Post by someone3760 »

What I mean is if you already have a NES, and you see one cheap at a flea market would you buy the second? Also if you already have a DS lite would you buy an original DS to have another? I'm not sure if I do.

Nah, there's no point for me to do that. I'm happy having one that WORKS and really try to minimize how much I have on hand. I couldn't possibly store multiples of the same console.

I would have said no up until about a year ago. A local store was going out of business and I ended up with tons of systems. I give a lot of the spares away, but a time or two its been nice to have the spare parts. Since then i've been buying up cheap systems when I find them (only if they're way under average going price or as part of a lot)

I think I have something like 15 gamecubes at the moment. It's probably just as annoying as it is useful.

I would buy the second NES or whatever if it was a good price mainly to clean it up and flip it. Or if it was in better condition than my current system. Like my SNES was piss ugly yellow and I found a nice clean one for a good price I would swap them out.

I have 5 dreamcasts, my local retro store sells them for $24 with cable and controller so everytime I see one I buy it. Systems with optical drives are much more prone to failure than a cartridge system, so I just want to have some backups.

I typically keep two or three of a console if I really like them. I like to have a backup just incase the worst happens.

I try to keep one or two extra machines around for parts. 5 is way too many. I barely have enough space as it is.

No way, I don't have enough room for my crap as it is.
I have a couple Game Boys, but those are for modding purposes.

Otherwise, when if get a console I already have, it's because it's an upgrade of some sort. So even though I had a DS, I got a DSi XL. Even though I have a Genesis, I would buy an original "High Definition Graphics" version because it supposedly has better sound and mine has some compatibility issues with 32X games.
