... yes, I have opened a seeming fine Saturn case and it stuck a bit and cracked.
Every once in a while you'll find a forum thread somewhere where people seriously look into what it would take to make reproduction saturn cases.

The upfront costs involved are pretty crazy.

It seems like the perfect kickstarter project though.
I would totally pledge to that. I love my Saturn longboxes but they seem to scratch themselves just sitting on the shelves. I picked up some flexible scratch resistant plastic covers for them but it just adds an extra step to getting the games out to play and doesn't really help solve the root issue of the weak cases themselves.

Got a new set of book shelves this past week @ Goodwill that fits 3 rows of Sega Saturn/CD cases. Score.

Had they all on the top of DVD racks before. Glad they have a home!

I have around 50 US saturn releases. I absolutely love these cases. Nothing looks nicer than a minty magic knight ray earth US copy. Just make sure to talk with whoever your buying the games from. Throw them an extra dollar or two to ensure they ship it real good. The only close call was when I got my copy of panzer dragoon saga a few years back. This guy shipped it in a box, packed loosely, with nothing but newspaper to keep it safe.

I hate how easily damaged the things are. The Saturn DVD case project is a fantastic way to house your Saturn game attractively and safely with cheaper cases.

How could you not love something so unnecessarily huge?
Unfortunately, I can't put my Saturn games on shelves, since I don't have room for shelves in my room, so I put my games in boxes. That's why their so unorganized, I have to dig through the boxes and afterwards I'm too lazy to put them back.
Insert clever quote here.

I'm constantly going back and forth between switching out my saturn cases for slim DVD cases. As much as I like keeping the originals out, I think those slim cases look slick, they'd save me a ton of shelf space, keep my stuff uniform and I wouldn't have to worry about breaking them. Yet for some reason I just can't bring myself to do it. All faults aside, I love those cases. I feel just as much nostalgia looking at them as I do playing the games.

I use to not like these cases because they were broken/cracked when I first got them. Then I started to get games with good cases and eventually replaced my broken ones and now all my games have good intact cases. They look really good and somehow feel substantial especially with the foam bricks inside.

I don't like homemade dvd cases because they aren't original and the style usually differs between whoever made the covers. Also not all games have dvd-size covers available to download so you would have to make your own. They cases aren't big enough to hold the manuals so you would have to keep them somewhere else; you might as well just use the original cases.
