How Long is Your Drive/Commute to Work?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

You just described my house, 100%. Please, believe me when I say that a house is *STILL* a ton of work, and there is *ALWAYS* some sort of major upkeep to be done.

That being said, I love my house and wouldn't dream of going back to renting if I still had the ability to own.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

Definitely don't envy that, of course my mom did the same here, and pretty sure it took at least a hour to do. It's even worse if you go into a rental house family owns and the previous renters were smokers so all the yellow gunk is piled up on the windows and seals...

I don't mind it at all. It's a very rewarding job, truth be told. Cleaned all the glass doors as well. Plus all my windows are the kind that "fold in" so cleaning the outside windows is a cinch.

I'm not a clean freak, but I definitely prefer things to be spit-spot and D-Teed.

I know it's a ton of work, the house my mom has that I'm living with her in is no small job to clean but it's better than 2 story houses with tons of space and yard. Personally the max i'll ever have in a house unless I end up having 2 or more kids when i'm older is the size hers is, just for the fact w/out kids it's plenty big for office/gaming room to be separate from living room...

Yeah I'm not a big clean freak either and it is rewarding, but I still wouldn't want to have too many windows to clean or even that much to clean to be honest...

When you buy the Ponderosa, you have to take care of the ranch.

Cleaning and I don't get along. I prefer a clean house to a dirty one, but I loathe the act of cleaning. I'm pretty good at keeping things naturally organized, but the closest I come to cleaning is that if I spill a lot of something while cooking I'll use a paper towel before it crusts up. Spill a little? Eh, too much effort.

So I've accepted that if I don't want my house to turn into a massive sty then I just need to fork over the cash to get it cleaned biweekly.

Roughly 15 - 20 minutes to go 2.5 miles, great getting to ride your bike to work!

Like the thread gradually turned into "why my commute is a bit longer than I'd like it to be" :)

Agree JMustang... by the time my house is completed I will have been renting for 8.5 years. Renting was my best option @ the time due to college, grad school, marriage, moving across the country for my career, moving back :), then settling roots. FINALLY the right time & ready to build equity rather than pad someone else's pockets.

That said, all the points we mentioned will be worth my 35 min commute. To each his own.

And yea Luke, you have too many windows.

I enjoy cleaning because it provides immediate gratification. Stuff is dirty, add elbow grease, stuff is clean.

I'd say my Sister's house is roughly between 4,000 to 4,500 sq. ft., and she has a team of Mexican women come in biweekly, and they are like a swat team when it comes to efficiency. No joke, I believe they spend maybe an hour in the joint before place is spotless. Pretty sure they do all the dishes, laundry and ironing as well. It's amazing how quickly the team works.

I do the cleaning, my wife is the chemist. Not sure if she's ever bought a cleaning solution since we bought our home. "Bring me some corn starch, baking soda, rubbing alcohol, and white vinegar" and she makes some foul smelling concoction that could probably remove spray paint off cement (I'm sure there are more ingredients to her potions). Glass cleaner, wood polisher, bathroom grime remover, she knows what she's doing when it comes to her "solutions". Saves us some scratch too.

Nah, I like them. Your electricity bill would be astronomical in Texas though due to AC :)

Unfortunately our curtains stay closed the majority of the year (with double paned windows & 2" blinds). In my last house, we had a long hahallway that I cut the temp 7 degrees mid day by adding blinds & curtains.
