Best Way to Ship PS1, DC, etc (jewel cases)?

Post by Jagosaurus »

How do you guys ship these? I've received several cracked to hell in bubble wrap envelopes.

I had a seller once ship a PS1 game in a necklace box that it fit perfect in :D lol also received a DC in a small box that looked like it was made for jewel cases.

Tips? Wanting to ensure packages of mine arrive safe. I've thought about wrapping in bubble wrap, cut cardboard & hold around it w/rubber band, wrap again in bubble wrap, place in envelope.

Too small to merit a $5.85 USPS priority medium flat rate box.

You mean SMALL flat rate box, right? It's only $5.15 if paid online IIRC.

If you want to make sure it wont get damaged, a small box is the only way to go.

Here's what I have done in the past: First wrap it in bubble wrap. Stick it in a padded envelope, but then stick a flat of cardboard on either side of it. Then write 2 or 3 times (twice on the top side where the address label will be, once on the bottom) DO NOT CRUSH! I've shipped a CD case like this once or twice and haven't heard any complaints. But I save pretty much every box I receive, so I almost always have the perfect size box to ship a CD or game cart in, if not using a small flat rate Priority box (which is what I normally do).

Yeah I meant a small flat rate :)

I wish I could find the exact box that seller sent my DC game in. Sturdy cardboard box, jewel case sized.

Is it technically not allowed to place a small priority box inside of an envelope & mail first class? I've done that before. Get game there safe & only have to charge a few bucks for ship.

I always just add some cardboard inserts then give the package a double layer of bubble wrap, and then hand wrap with 2-3 layers of standard packaging paper.

There are plenty of places you can order boxes from online though if you want extra protection and a perfect fit. Here is a site I have been looking at for a while now. There prices and shipping seem to be pretty reasonable. Here is about the size you would need for an average cd.

Would be around $20 shipped for 25 boxes to my location. Shipping was $13.20 but didn't change when on orders between 25-100 boxes. Every 25 boxes after that was an additional $.70 for shipping though.

Hey Jago,

try this method... should save you some hard earned dough ;)

First, wrap your game in bubble wrap.

then, put the game inside a USPS small flat rate box.

and finally, wrap a brown paper bag around the box. I've done this many times in the past, and there's never been a problem.

shouldn't cost more than $2.50 - $3.00 with tracking.

buy some #0 size padded mailers, put some bubble wrap over the center hub inside the jewel case to keep it from moving around, ship it in there via First Class, should cost about $2 to ship it if you buy shipping online. i have shipped jewel case games using this method for a while now and haven't had any problems. this is by far the cheapest, most economical way to ship jewel cases.

#0 sized mailers also fit DVD cases and work well for cart-based games. (NES, SNES, N64, SMS, Genesis, Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, Colecovision, Jaguar, etc)

There are different folding CD mailers that you can buy. If I'm worried about a case but don't use a box, I'll take some cardboard that's a bit wider than the case and wrap and tape it tight so it is sort of a squared off tube. Leaving the hollow bits either side of the case give it a crumple zone like a car if it gets dropped on a corner inside a bubble pack.

No.

Priority boxes are provided free for priority shipping use. You know how they're now printed with "Thank you for using Priority Mail" or "Priority Mail required" inside? That's because people would turn them inside out and thought they were the cleverest motherfuckers on the planet who were sticking it to the man by getting 'free' boxes'. Do you think they don't know the size of a P box even when it's in paper? Remember how the USPS is going bankrupt? People stealing boxes doesn't help that. Next time postage goes up or there's talk of them dropping a delivery day, remember that you're contributing to that by stealing boxes.
should save you some hard earned dough
Again, this doesn't because you'll just cause them to raise postage sooner.

Yeah, I agree, don't steal Priority boxes. Postage already went up, which you might not notice. If it goes up again, it'll mean deal breakers for a lot of things.

Forget postage going up, what if they just start inspecting boxes that fit the small box dimensions and then charge the extra money upon delivery? That would suck!

The small size Priority box is super popular, just save the ones you get in the mail and reuse them. It's OK to cover them in brown paper if you're reusing it. Hell, I've reused some before that were already reused!

And this is where I got into it with my P.O.
I fought saying they did not want to ''recycle renew or reuse'' lol

In the end, they shipped the priority box using parcel post, I think it saved me less then $1 lol.

Yeah the ones I used were recycled as well. I keep a stack in my closet lol.

Let's be honest, anyone who has experience in government run operations and the way "budgeting" works isn't surprised by USPS having money issues. You have an incentive to spend money at EOY because any money saved means you're allocated less funds the next year. In the real world managers are rewarded for meeting and exceeding budget, not punished the following 12 months lol. I just hate to see people lose their jobs or number of hours worked cut so I try not to take advantage bc it doesn't help that existing mess. Tangent over :)

All the advice helped. Amazon recently sent me a 3DS game in a box very similar to what Hobie described (ends were longer) so that must work!
