What single player RTS campaign are you playing?
Re: What single player RTS campaign are you playing?
Just bought Rome: Total War complete (Gold and Alexander) since it was $2 and some change on Steam today.

CoH2 is possibly the only RTS worth looking forward to in the foreseeable future, aside from Rome 2 TW of course.

I have the physical Gold Edition, which doesn't include Alexander. Is it any good?o.pwuaioc wrote:Just bought Rome: Total War complete (Gold and Alexander) since it was $2 and some change on Steam today.

Perhaps this is proof that unless your RTS is a populist extravaganza there's no place in the market for your product. Gas Powered Games also has suffered setbacks in the RTS market. The market has moved away from RTS and embraced Starcraft's populism.

So wait, if you don't make what the people want, the people don't want it?Pulsar_t wrote:http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013- ... r-defeated

Exactly! Whilst the FPS market is ubersaturated there's still room to make profit if you push your product the right way, but for RTS fans if you're not one of three or four established franchises you're more likely than not to fail at selling your game, because most people who want real-time strategy just opt for Starcraft. Here's hoping Creative Assembly engenders new interest with their freshly-acquired Warhammer license.

Edge thinks CoH2 is average. This is disappointing, but I guess the genre has officially stagnated.

I think Company of Heroes ruined RTS for me. Why? Because watching those small units pew-pewing at one another with little to no damage simulation just feels wrong. In CoH you can outflank tanks, use troops to harass enemy positions and even use rudimentary artillery. Mod support is also pretty good, unlike its sequel which went Dawn of War II on us. Planetary Annihilation is also a subjective disappointment, with no real potential to hunker-down for those of us who prefer to build up sizeable armies.

Just picked up Alien versus Predator Extinction on PS2. Any experience with this one?

Command and Conquer: Red Alert 1. I love how the Allies were worried and Stalin was batsh** crazy. One of my favourite RTS games of all time.
