You know what, I think I really like the US saturn cases

Saturn and Sega CD cases are my least favorite. Sure they look nice, but you're out of luck if you damage one. Contrast that to Playstaion: I can usually just switch out cases if I damage one. I only own one American Saturn and two Sega CD games, which are immaculate. I think I'm gonna buy strictly Japanese from now on.

I think DVD cases look best.

I've always loved how Sega CD and Saturn cases look... but man, those cases can be annoying. In addition to breaking easily, they take up a ton of space! The size is really awkward to find shelving for. I keep them in a cabinet designed for DVDs/VHSs/CDs but each shelf ends up with extra space for 3/4 of a case (which is enough to be visibly noticeable) and the bottom shelf can only hold CDs, forcing a weird "jump" in the way my games are organized.

Still, they do look good and if they were being made today, I would buy empty cases to replace my broken ones...

Also, if you find the spines wrinkled a lot, you can roll up and stuff a paper towel between the case insert and the spine so it presses the spine art flat against the case.

If the manuals a little warped from the case being laid on it's side, some thin cardboardplaced between the manual & the clip holders make it look 100% better immediately and will straighten it out over time.

Personally, I avoid purchasing complete US Saturn games at this point mostly because a shelf full of the massive US cases and the regular JPN cases looks tacky and awkward -- since there are so many Japan-only releases, it only made sense to focus on collecting even the global releases in their Japanese format. And although I give Sega of America props for massively closing the East/West cover art quality gap compared to previous generations (Panzer Dragoon and Guardian Heroes notwithstanding), I still tend to prefer the Japanese artwork. The gold bar also just strikes me as being much classier than the white stripes.

Still, I do think that the US Saturn cases look pretty nice when they're in good condition. I still have a small collection of the US Saturn games from my youth (miraculously in good condition after more than a decade in my clumsy hands), which give me a jolt of nostalgia.

They do look very nice on a shelf. Ppl always walk right to my SS & SCD games and ask what system they're for. Definitely eye catching.

It's always $5-6 for shipping when ordering online bc I'll message sellers and get them to send in a small sturdy box. It's a bit of a pain, but worth the trouble when I get a really nice longbox in. Just makes "collecting" them a but more expensive.

They ARE gorgeous, but man with things like The Cover Project out there remaking the art for dvd cases, it's hard to justify not switching over to them just for uniformity's sake, y'know?

If someone were to make repro-Saturn cases out of a better type of plastic with some undetectable reinforcements so they could actually handle being opened without cracking, and sold them for the right price... would there be any money in it? I know I'd buy a handfull, but is it to niche a market?
... yes, I have opened a seeming fine Saturn case and it stuck a bit and cracked.

Every once in a while you'll find a forum thread somewhere where people seriously look into what it would take to make reproduction saturn cases.

The upfront costs involved are pretty crazy.

It seems like the perfect kickstarter project though.
