If you don't own a 3DS why not?
I do!

If you own a 3DS, what model/color variation do you prefer (explain why)?
New 3DS XL. I have the greyish one so that one. My wife has a new Zelda XL model, that one is nice as well.

What year did you buy a 3DS?
Bought at launch

Was there a particular game that made you want to buy it?
Not a particular game, but figured there would be more RPG goodness following up from the DS

Did you buy and utilize the Circle Pad Pro?
Nope

What were some of the first games you bought and played?
Fire Emblem Awakening was the first I really sunk time into. It was fairly disappointing at launch

What's the most recent 3DS game you bought?
Dragon Quest VIII

What 3DS game do you think you spent the most amount of time with?
Fire Emblem: Awakening. I really enjoyed this one, more so than I have with Fates

Any upcoming 3DS games you are really excited for?
The next FE is probably the first that comes to mind

Do you think the 3DS surpassed the DS in any way(s)?
Nah not really. It actually feels a lot like the same system continued with a few gimmicks. It probably doesn't help that I played backlog DS games on it.

Do you enjoy the 3D effect, or do you turn it off?
I leave it on, it doesn't bother me like it does some users. I could easily live without it though.

What's your opinion of the New 3DS?
I like it, the 3D effect is much improved. With the original 3DS, I would knock myself out of 3D focus too often, and that was irritating.

Does it make you want to cut yourself that we never got any official metroidvanias for 3DS?
Nah, I don't often play them

If you could have magically made Nintendo create a 3DS game from any of its existing franchises (which didn't receive a 3DS game), which franchise would you have made a 3DS game from?
Advance Wars didn't get a release did it?

If you were able to make one improvement to the 3DS, what would it have been?
I think I would've liked the system to have been a bit more powerful than it was and the screens with a bit better resolution. I love the XLs but man, those pixels are a bit large...

Do you think Nintendo did a good job handling the 3DS domestically?
At first no, but I think they redeemed themselves with a solid library.

How about that region locking bro?
I say it blows, seems pointless. But then, I probably wouldn't have imported anything anyway, so it wouldn't have mattered much to me personally.

How many times have beaten Metroid Prime: Federation Force?
what is that?

How many variants of the 3DS do you own?
2 for myself. I have one of the Zelda 3DS and the the gray one described above. My wife also has 2, so 4 in the household.

Twenty years from now if you sat back and remembered the 3DS, what nostalgic moment would be most prominent?
Probably tapping along to some of my favorite Final Fantasy tracks in the Thearhythm games. I enjoyed them a lot more than I expected I would.

Favorite Eshop game?
The 2 Mercenary Saga releases. Nothing special, but simple fun tactics gameplay.

Yes, especially on the 3DS XL. This is the thing no one talks about when they praise the backwards compatibility. I guess it doesn't bother most people, but I can't stand the upscaling artifacts/blurriness. I simply use my DS Lite when I want to play DS games.
Pressing & holding start boots both DS & GBA games in their native resolution on the 3DS.

I measured it once, IIRC DS games on the 3DS in native res ran at the exact same size screen as a DSi, which makes sense if you think about it.

No interest. The regular DS barely held mine. And I'm not a fan of "3D" gimmicks.

I do wish to someday borrow one to see if Link Between Worlds is any good.
Link Between Worlds, Super Mario 3D World, and Spirit Camera prove that 3D isn't a gimmick.

Jago beat me to it. You can have the DS games scale to their proper size, and the display area ends up, on an XL, being equivalent to the original DSi.

Sure I guess if you don't have a DS, the backwards compatibility is important. Personally I'd rather put the extra wear and tear on my DS for playing DS games, and save the usage of the 3DS solely for 3DS games.

If you own a 3DS, what model/color variation do you prefer (explain why)?

The Year of Luigi 3DSXL, it was the one on sale at the time and it was cute and I didn't want to buy the Zelda one because I wanted a physical copy of Link Between Worlds.

What year did you buy a 3DS?

The Year of Luigi. 2013 holiday season.

Was there a particular game that made you want to buy it?

Link Between Worlds, but also Starfox 64 3D so I could finally let go of my N64 stuff that collected dust.

Did you buy and utilize the Circle Pad Pro?

Nah.

What were some of the first games you bought and played?

Link Between Worlds, Code of Princess, Shinobi 3D, Super Mario 3D Land.

What's the most recent 3DS game you bought?

Azure Strike Gunvolt Double Pack (physical), Blaster Master Zero (digital).

What 3DS game do you think you spent the most amount of time with?

Dragon Ball Fusions. Quite the addiction. Anyone who loves Pokemon and Dragon Ball needs to check it out.

Any upcoming 3DS games you are really excited for?

Not Really.

Do you think the 3DS surpassed the DS in any way(s)?

Not really, at least not in any way that applies to me.

Do you enjoy the 3D effect, or do you turn it off?

It depends on the game. It's really cool in stuff like Super Mario 3D Land and Sega's arcade Super Scaler games look pretty rad in 3D, it's an annoyance in some other things. Some games I switch it off and on depending on my mood or level of eye-strain.

I think the effect is cool but that overall it ended up being more of a gimmick than a necessary feature.

What's your opinion of the New 3DS?

Don't know, never touched one.

Does it make you want to cut yourself that we never got any official metroidvanias for 3DS?

No, I love the genre but it's getting overplayed and there's no shortage of them in the indie scene.

If you could have magically made Nintendo create a 3DS game from any of its existing franchises (which didn't receive a 3DS game), which franchise would you have made a 3DS game from?

Way to make me go back on my previous answer and say Metroid. Well played.

If you were able to make one improvement to the 3DS, what would it have been?

I don't know, I don't have any particular complaints about it. I don't think forcing Capcom to put out a physical release of the later Ace Attorney games would count.

Do you think Nintendo did a good job handling the 3DS domestically?

This is out of my wheelhouse. I don't know how well they did or didn't do. They eventually got me to buy one long before it was in danger of becoming defunct so I guess they did fine.

Howabout that region locking bro?

Yeah that's a disappointment. I imported quite a few games on the original DS. At least I can't think of any games I would have wanted anyway.

How many times have beaten Metroid Prime: Federation Force?

The same number of times I've been to the moon.

How many variants of the 3DS do you own?

1

Twenty years from now if you sat back and remembered the 3DS, what nostalgic moment would be most prominent?

Maybe playing Shovel Knight for the first time.

It's bullshit.
