What I really meant was; "how do you feel Nintendo handled the release of the 3DS in your own country". But I didn't word it clearly enough.

That is a great question, I should have thought of that one. I'll add it in to the OP. Actually I don't know, if I edit the OP it might reset the poll?

For me the answer to your question is Crimson Shroud.

I think you're wrong about 2017. 2018 at the earliest, probably 2019 depending how much the Switch steamrolls the sales, and if they don't do what we're speculating of a smaller one piece unit, a mini version, that just is the body and the power cord to charge it for the price of a New3DSXL (199.)

Anyways...

If you own a 3DS, what model/color variation do you prefer (explain why)? I have the gray New3DSXL, a subtle colored replacement. I've had a few since they came out.

What year did you buy a 3DS? When it came out.

Was there a particular game that made you want to buy it? I don't remember but it was a mix of that and a future list. I know I had Pilotwings, Steel Diver, Super SF4, and a bit later Ridge Racer, Samurai Warriors, Dead or Alive, and Zelda within the first 3mo.

Did you buy and utilize the Circle Pad Pro? Yes and a bit, with Resident Evil Revelations. I would have felt hosed buying it new, found it second hand. :)

What were some of the first games you bought and played? Answered earlier.

What's the most recent 3DS game you bought? Senran Kagura 2 (in the mail), Hatsune Miku, and Dragon Quest 7.

What 3DS game do you think you spent the most amount of time with? No idea, I don't play games as heavily as in the DS days and before. Probably an RPG like Tales of the Abyss or one with mechanics like it such as Code of Princess.

Any upcoming 3DS games you are really excited for? Ever Oasis interests me, other than that don't know until it's out. I still should get Yoshis Wolly World at some point and maybe DQ8 if time allows.

Do you think the 3DS surpassed the DS in any way(s)? Successfully pulling off 3D (with New model) and giving a console (Wii era) like experience on the go and the games that put that kind of effort into it giving a true console and handheld like environment.

Do you enjoy the 3D effect, or do you turn it off? I did at first, but the split bugge me, shut it off for years, but now with New3DS I'll use it again especially when it's a benefit.

What's your opinion of the New 3DS? The right way it should have been done years earlier as the 3D didn't work unless you were robot stiff.

Does it make you want to cut yourself that we never got any official metroidvanias for 3DS? We didn't? Castlevania came out, plays like that with a God of War twist to the life/magic bar and combo chain attacks.

If you could have magically made Nintendo create a 3DS game from any of its existing franchises (which didn't receive a 3DS game), which franchise would you have made a 3DS game from? Tough call. Probably F-Zero seeing how well the GC game pulled itself off, or a Metroid game (2.5 D like Other M, or Castlevania which is on 3DS.)

If you were able to make one improvement to the 3DS, what would it have been? The old model a rightly working 3D mode day one, New model a smaller stick over the nub.

Do you think Nintendo did a good job handling the 3DS domestically? Yes they did a great job with it and continue to do so, unlike their bungling of consoles for years. Unlike the WiiU it never felt like a let down or went unused for large gaps of time.

How about that region locking bro? F*cking garbage. Thank you Switch for being free!

How many times have beaten Metroid Prime: Federation Force? I don't own it, looked to multiplayer centric.

How many variants of the 3DS do you own? I've had the 3DS, then the XL, now New3DSXL.

Twenty years from now if you sat back and remembered the 3DS, what nostalgic moment would be most prominent? Not sure if I'd have one. I don't get that absorbed by games anymore, but I'm sure something I'll go back to.

I will answer the questions later. For now, I just want to give PS an internet high five for calling out Alien on the Run. It is also my favorite eShop exclusive. It is so, so awesome.

From what I've read, Mirror of Fate wasn't an Igavania styled Castlevania (i.e. metroidvania). I've heard it has lite metroidvania elements at best. I'd love to be wrong about that, and find out Mirror of Fate is a full blown metroidvania, even without the involvement of Iga. Are you saying that's the case?

If you own a 3DS, what model/color variation do you prefer (explain why)?

I don't really care about the color. Pratical wise the white N3DS is my choice.

What year did you buy a 3DS?

I planned from the beginning to wait until the superior model would come get discounted and that's exactly what i did and i bought my first 3DS less than year and half ago.

Was there a particular game that made you want to buy it?

No, RPG's in general.

What were some of the first games you bought and played?

I bought my first 3DS game years before i actually bought the system itself (Shinobi) first couple of games i played on it were Fire Emblem awakening,Pilotwings: Resort, Pokemon X and Ace Combat Legacy+.

What's the most recent 3DS game you bought?

7th Dragon

What 3DS game do you think you spent the most amount of time with?

I'm pretty sure the longest game i have beaten is Bravely Default.

Any upcoming 3DS games you are really excited for?

Not really. I will still pick up couple of titles like the Oasis game and Culdcept.

Do you think the 3DS surpassed the DS in any way(s)?

I haven't really played enough on it to answer that. At least it has some nice features
like being able to tell how much you played each game.

Do you enjoy the 3D effect, or do you turn it off?

I always test it with new game and always quickly take it off.

What's your opinion of the New 3DS?

My N3DS have homebrew for imports and for that reason i later bought the older model from sale and my opinion of it is that it's much better than the original model. Not only does it have more power and buttons but the buttons are better laid out.

Does it make you want to cut yourself that we never got any official metroidvanias for 3DS?

No. I did like Portrait Of Ruin but i didn't care for the first game and i didn't make past the big skeleton boss in the last game on the trilogy.

If you could have magically made Nintendo create a 3DS game from any of its existing franchises (which didn't receive a 3DS game), which franchise would you have made a 3DS game from?

New Hotel Dusk game. The second game was disappointment but i would have still wanted to see new one.

EDIT: Oh, a nintendo game. Probably Advanced Wars. I'm not really all that into Nintendos own franchises. I guess metroid game could have been nice too.

If you were able to make one improvement to the 3DS, what would it have been?

Better perfomance i guess.

Do you think Nintendo did a good job handling the 3DS domestically?

Don't really have opinnion on this right now.

Howabout that region locking bro?

Region locking was a terrible idea and it did play part on why i waited for so long to get the system because there wasn't easy way to play imports.

How many times have beaten Metroid Prime: Federation Force?

Once and it was bad.

How many variants of the 3DS do you own?

White N3Ds and older 3DS of which color i don't remember (it some sort of pinkish/reddish color)

Twenty years from now if you sat back and remembered the 3DS, what nostalgic moment would be most prominent?

This is nice question but i don't really have answer for it. None of the games i have played on the 3DS are good enough to be remembered fondly. If i have to force an answer then i would say that i love the charm of Pokemon Super Mystery dungeon. The writing in that game is really endearing.

It is really fun, incredibly well-designed, and overflowing with personality. It is perfectly paced and never wears out its welcome. Better, it is reminiscent of the zany Japanese games we often received during the PS1 era. Finally, it only costs a few dollars and is frequently on sale. (I bought it for $2.). So, basically, it is everything good about the 3DS eShop rolled up into one game.

Nintendolife published a good review, and there are videos of it online. Also, everyone on here who has played it has enjoyed it. If you get the chance, you should check it out.

Posting from mobile but I'll answer a few of these:

I bought a blue 3DS when XL model launched in the States, so August of 2012. I had just finished grad school & finally some money (not much still :) ) and most important, free time.

I had played the original model back in 2010 as Nintendo was traveling to college campuses marketing the system before the lauch. You can imagine my surprise when I saw a giant Nintendo 3DS tent on A&M's west campus. Cool memory playing the system before launch with random Nintendo employees in College Station, TX. Random. They had special large AR cards that made you see a giant bowser in front of a campus building. After that day, I thought we'd see some really cool use of the AR cards in games. I was wrong...

I knew a XL would come eventually & I don't regret waiting. Now, I do regret importing a Japanese Circle Pad Pro XL.

I played the mess out Zelda OoT and DS Dragon Quest 5. I actually beat quite a few DS RPGs on it, Golden Sun Dark Dawn is another that stands out.

My favorite experience was Fire Emblem Awakening. I had the urge to clap when I beat the final boss  and lost many nights of sleep. Brought me back to being a kiddo addicting to a game.

My biggest surprise game was Resident Evil Mercenaries. The game was universally panned for the save system, but I picked it up CHEAP and had a ton of fun with it. Something about running through those short missions in the RE Universe was awesome. The graphics were also impressive on the machine for the time.

I recently (last month) sold my 3DS handheld & most of my DS & 3DS games (4 left I need to move). It was collecting dust recently, and I wanted to move it while it was still was holding value. Also, the last couple games I received for Christmas of 2014 (wow, just had to fouble check that date, time flies) were still sitting unplayed. Those were Zelda a Link Between Worlds & Smash Bros. I was tempted to start buying some newer RPGs, but I couldn't justify it. I have 100+ RPGs on my to play list I have access to via physical copy, digital mods, flash carts, or emu.

I have great memories with the system. I also sold my Wii recently as I am really focusing on 7800 to PS2 these days, along with emulators, testing obscure systems via emu, & DOS box. It was a good time and a great purchase. I am just focusing what little gaming time I have elsewhere these days. Long live the 3DS & the memories I had with it :D

I bought the Mario & Luigi silver one that came with Dream Team. Really happy with the system itself (Dream Team was kind of a bore IMO). Kind of a bitch to keep clean from scratches, but I really like it. Plus I bought it about two years ago and hadn't owned a handheld since the early DS days.

Long story short I have a ton of 3DS/DS games to play eventually. I'll be playing it off and on for a long ass time. Every so often I get on a kick where it's the only system I'm playing for like a month, and it's great.

What year did you buy a 3DS?
2011 I think? I got the blue 3DS XL.
EDIT: Just checked and I actually got it December 2012 whoops.

Was there a particular game that made you want to buy it?
Harvest Moon: A New Beginning. What a disappointment that was :|

Did you buy and utilize the Circle Pad Pro?
No. I haven't played any games that could use it so I haven't bothered getting it.

What were some of the first games you bought and played?
Harvest Moon: A New Beginning and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked. Still haven't beaten Devil Survivor Overclocked though :|

What's the most recent 3DS game you bought?
Probably Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns. Still haven't gotten around to playing it much yet though (and why is is a Harvest Moon game again??)

What 3DS game do you think you spent the most amount of time with?
I think Conception II. It's not at all my favourite game, but it took the longest to beat out of everything I've played.

Any upcoming 3DS games you are really excited for?
Culcept Revolt HYPE

Do you think the 3DS surpassed the DS in any way(s)?
Eh I guess it looks better and the analog stick is nice... But other than that not really.

Do you enjoy the 3D effect, or do you turn it off?
Off at all times. I really don't like the 3D effect.

What's your opinion of the New 3DS?
Eh. I'm sure it's nice if you don't already own a 3DS, but I don't see a point in upgrading unless my current 3DS breaks.

Does it make you want to cut yourself that we never got any official metroidvanias for 3DS?
I haven't played any metroidvanias I think, so no?

If you were able to make one improvement to the 3DS, what would it have been?
I absolutely hate that bottom screen. Junk gets stuck in there and I hate it. I wish it was flat like how the Vita's screen is.

Howabout that region locking bro?
It's dumb. My boyfriend has two Japanese 3DSs, but I'll probably be getting my own at some point so I can play a few of the Japan exclusives myself.

How many times have beaten Metroid Prime: Federation Force?
I don't own it, nor do I want to.

Twenty years from now if you sat back and remembered the 3DS, what nostalgic moment would be most prominent?
Eh I'm not sure. My time with my 3DS has been not too memorable. So far I haven't really played anything that really wowed me I guess. I guess one thing that I'll probably remember is that I can buy eshop games without having to track down a Canadian eshop card. Sounds kind of silly, but it's such a PAIN to have to do this sort of thing on PSN, so that's one aspect of the 3DS that I've really appreciated.
