Okay, in 2016 my goal is to PLAY MORE! This means I'll be on the few forums I visit less. I'll also spend less time collecting, selling, trading, buying, researching system libraries, watching auctions/prices, looking up game footage, etc.

These are all aspects I really enjoy of the hobby, but my available free time has changed. As some of you know I'm lucky enough to have a 9 month old kiddo :D. It's been awesome but I need to get better regarding time allocation related to hobbies & free time (after kiddo goes to sleep & on weekends). I've had hobby A.D.D. since March. I'm going to focus on playing games & movies in my spare time.

My wife & I also made a list & there are 15 movies we want to watch that came out in the past year & a half or so! Wow! We're getting a Chromecast 2 & going on a movie rental spree :) but again it'll leave less time for the other ancillary aspects of the hobby I mentioned above.

With that said, between working full time, family time, daily household chores, catching up on/keeping up with movies, & actually playing games... I decided to make a list of 12 games I already own with the idea of focusing on 1 a month. 10 will be new experiences, 2 I'll be revisiting. I'll also be finishing 2 from 2015 in there. I put a lot of thought into this list (included several genres) & just reflecting on my use of time in general.

I'll still be on the forum, but less, & won't have as much to contribute to the "Games Acquired" thread in 2016. Interesting this is purely time based versus financially driven, but then again, time is our most valuable resource :)

Here is my list below. The 12 are in no particular order. Several can double as my October themed game as well :). You'll notice a heavy emphasis on PS2 as the past couple years I've gathered a lot of highly regarded PS2 titles that I haven't played yet. Time to fix that.

To finish from 2015:
Shining Force Sword of Hajya (3DS VC)
- Halfway through!
God War (PS2)
- Entering last dungeon/temple!

New for 2016:
1. Half Life (PS2)
2. Deus Ex (PS2)
3. Second Sight (PS2)
4. Psi Ops (PS2)
5. Alien vs Predator Extinction (PS2)
6. Ghostbusters (PS2)
7. Prince of Persia The Sands of Time (PS2)
8. Kim Possible What's the Switch (PS2)
9. Bionic Commando (NES)
10. Shovel Knight (3DS)

To revisit in 2016:
11. Quake (Saturn)
12. Alien vs Predator (Jaguar)

I'll update in games beaten thread from here! Here's to a great 2016.

Edit/Addition: Should mention not all my free time will be movies & games lol that's not balanced. I have multiple books to read, I want to dive into the boardgame Stratego (as I love SRPGs already), & get back into star gazing.

my main goal for next year is to post an article every week on my blog site *shameless plug*

other than that, i really want to build up my physical collection of retro games. i've always played on emulators, but this year i bought a retron, and rediscovered the joy of playing with a real cart. right now i only have discount bin titles. and most of the AAA tiles are really expensive. Someday i'll own an earthbound cart....someday...

i also want to finish playing all the pokemon games. i've bought every main series game, but i stopped playing them after ruby and sapphire on the GBA. i just kept playing other games and never got back around to them. i want to fix that next year.

My main goal comes down to playing more and buying less. I'm doing okay lately, but over the past couple years I developed the habit of buying games and never even playing them, let alone beating them. I'm okay with not finishing a game I've lost interest in or that isn't engaging enough, but as long as I play them long enough to get an opinion on them.

I've been thinking more about this and I've come up with a few.

Exhuminator's 2016 gaman goalz:

Beat at least five Vita games.
I've owned a Vita for almost three years and own about 50 games for it, but have only finished three of them. That's just sad.

Beat at least five 3DS games.
I've owned a 3DS for over three years and own about 45 games for it, but have only finished four of them. That's just a travesty.

Beat at least three of the Wii AAA classics.
For example, I've owned Super Mario Galaxy 2, Skyward Sword, Xenoblade, Metroid Prime 3, and Little King's Story for years. Haven't played any of them yet. And plenty other Wii games at that.

Beat at least two Xbox games.
My poor OG Xbox hasn't seen any love in forever.

Beat at least two GameCube games.
My poor GameCube is in the same support group as my OG Xbox.

Well now that'll keep me busy.

I've seen the series hyped to such a degree over the years that I know I'm just going to be disappointed.

I only just started thinking about this yesterday, so my resolutions are a little rough but this is what I have so far.

Beat at least 12 different RPGs
I hardly beat any this year since I was focused on beating 50 different games (which I couldn't meet) which was a bit lame since I love my RPGs. I don't really have any particulars in mind (other than Baroque, Dungeon Travelers II, and Etrian Odyssey IV which I'm in the middle of playing) so I'll have to look through what I have.

Don't buy any Steam games

I bought a TON of Steam games this year, which was really silly of me considering that I love physical media, so perhaps outright "banning" myself from buying more for next year would help shift my focus a little. There really isn't much on my wishlist that I'm interested in anyway, so this may be easier than it sounds. I may also extend this to not buying any digital games at all, but I'm not sure about that yet. (oh and I'm not counting January's Humble Monthly since I already paid for that)

I need to start genuinely getting into collecting fmv games and CIB PC games as well. I haven't had much of a collector's drive and I think this year, I want to genuinely expand my collection with trying to accumulate ever fmv game.

I'm keeping it short and manageable this year.

1. Get a Wii U.
2. Get Xenoblade Chronicles X, King's Quest, Killer Instinct Season 3, Tekken 7, FFXV.
3. Get the PS3 to Xbox One & PS3 to PS4 Brooks converters for my arcade stick.
4. Get the last few Sega Saturn fighters that I want.
5. Get my spare PVM fixed. The image is bowing at the top and I can't correct it with the service menu.
6. Get into the TG16/PC-Engine scene.
7. As always, put a dent in the backlog.
