1 Hour Documentary on XBAND (Genesis & SNES Online) Free YT

I though this was incredibly well done & fascinating. It is complete with interviews from several founding members of Catapult. I had no idea it was a startup of mostly engineers who had left Apple. They get into the crazy development, meeting with Sega, and ultimately Nintendo. I vividly remember wanting this thing... yet also being confused by it . They touch on the Sega Netlink as well. Enjoy!

I have zero affiliation with the Wrestling With Gaming channel. Just passing on to my RB friends here. It's free on YouTube.

I haven't seen the whole video yet, but I was happy to see this pop up. I'm not sure how well known the XBAND is at this point, but I've always remembered it. Mainly because it was that thing I wanted but wasn't allowed to buy. I didn't even care THAT much to get it, I just thought it was a really cool sounding piece of tech. Playing consoles games over the phone lines? How crazy did that sound in the 90's? The answer is VERY.

Really cool documentary. I will eventually watch it again. I was cracking up at several of the stories. These guys have all gone on to do great things, but you can tell they're still proud of this project all these years later.

I was so baffled by both xband & Sega Channel.

We got a family computer & dial up in summer of 95 IIRC. We were early adopters compared to many of my friends. This was released before that!

While I was playing PC games from 95 on, my first real online gaming experience wouldn't come until '99 with Delta Force 2. That's a thread for another day...

I finally stayed at hotel with Sega Channel in the room. You paid & got access to download a huge list of games. My parents were cool enough to pony up the credit card. I remember staying in the room the play Genesis instead of going to the pool
