Game Collecting road trip.

Post by TK Island Boy Gamer »

So even though its pretty early in the year, I'm already planning my vacation for the year. Ultimately, I want to do something cheap, and for me, a road trip certainly can be cheap.

It will be starting from Orlando, Florida where my sisters live, up to Dallas, Texas to see the Retropalooza Convention the Game Chasers do. I haven't been to a con since Megacon in Orlando, and picked up a few games there including a boxed F-Zero.

So I'll be planning on scooping around flea markets, game stores, etc around the areas between Orlando and Dallas. I don't think this will be so hard to pull off, to be honest, since my NES collection really has no meat on it. There are all sorts of common games I'd be glad to find to collect.

After the convention, I'm thinking hey why not and road trip the rest of Texas from Dallas to Houston to San Antonio to see it all.

What am I even hoping for? Like I said, a meatier collection here. At least more NES titles, a couple Pokemon carts to complete my Game Boy release collection, even Japanese releases. Conkers, Earthbound, the high stuff I'd be willing to pay $60 max for.

I'm also gonna bring to the con some of my own things to trade, to make credit for more games. I have a Vice Project Doom which seems to be the rarest of my eight NES carts. Plus a lot of NES-series GBA carts with accompanying manuals. I know these things aren't worth a fortune, I'm just here looking to add meat to my collection.

So anyone know good flea markets and/or game stores around Jackson, Ms, Shreveport, LA etc?

Hey bud, as a native Texan just making sure you know DFW, San An, & Houston are a good bit apart.

Many of your destinations in Houston will be greatly spread out versus in Houston proper. For example, where I live in a north Houston suburb is almost 2 hours from where the Game Chasers hold their "Houston" convention in a south suburb.

Edit/add: Should clarify I was mentioning their second convention in "Houston" that's really in Pasadena. Just as an example as it relates to the size of Greater Houston. Not their DFW convention you're referring to. 8)
