I have a vintage buck hunting knife model 110. It is from somewhere between 67-72, I don't know how to differentiate the versions beyond that.
It looks to be worth a few dollars. So, I have a few inquiries. I'm sure this isn't the best place to ask, but worth a shot.
It is complete in box with all paperwork and leather holster.
It has no damage, but could use cleaning/maintenance.
Should I clean it up? What's the best method?
I've seen these things go for anywhere from $150-$800, I have no clue where mine should fall on that scale. If someone actually has knowledge on the subject I'd be happy to post some pics for a better indication.
Lastly, is ebay a good venue for selling a knife? Would a gun and knife show be more appropriate?
It's an odd thread, I know...I'd appreciate any suggestions though.
Need advice on vintage buck knife. Anyone a collector?

I know nothing about knife collecting, but I know that ebay is fine to sell on. I knew people who bought and sold knives a while ago and they shipped them with tracking and sign on delivery through Fedex or UPS and never had issues. Good luck on your sale.

Thanks. I found a "Buck" collectors forum, but it seemed in poor taste to sign up and go asking a bunch of questions just to inform myself for a sale. Online info is pretty sparse aside from that, hence the strange one off thread.fastbilly1 wrote:I know nothing about knife collecting, but I know that ebay is fine to sell on. Post a pic? I have one my dad bought from a guy who needed cash. I was surprised to see it was worth $60+ as it looks like nothing special. Is it a single blade & handle or a folding pocket knife?

It is a Buck 110. It's a very popular, maybe the most popular, pocket "hunting" knife. There are many revisions even withing specific year ranges, so I've not been able to identify it exactly.Jagosaurus wrote:Post a pic? I have one my dad bought from a guy who needed cash. I'm not too up on my collecting, but if I had to guess the value is based would be based on the year of make, which might have differences depending on when it was made. I have the same exact knife and case, except a 2010 or so. Good knife, even if it isn't worth much.

Yeah, it's a really nice knife. Apparently even though it is older than me, I could send it in to Buck to get it professionally restored for free.Forlorn Drifter wrote:I'm not too up on my collecting, but if I had to guess the value is based would be based on the year of make, which might have differences depending on when it was made. The stamping not including "110" is an indication of age, as well as the three handle rivets, and the solid brass end piece. The newer knives don't have a one piece end cap, there is a steel or brass divider in it.
Even with all that information found it only narrows it down to a range of years, withing which there are about five different revisions. Some are rare, others not so much. I'm tempted to just hang on to it. The pics don't really do it justice. That is ebony hardwood on the grip. It is a very solid knife. I have polished it a little to remove some of the tarnish and put a little mineral oil on the wood. If I decide to hang on to it, I'll polish the ends up better.
I don't really carry a pocket knife these days, but I used to drop some heavy coin on them and always have one on me.

Nice looking knife.
My Buck is clearly made for cleaning game. It's probably 7".
I usually have a pocket knife on me. I use them often. I've extremely accustom ton having one around. I also keep the following handy:
- Kitchen drawer: husky razor utility knife
- Garage shelf: utility tool w/knife, plyers, screwdriver, etc
- Truck: Gerber pocket knife
- Work desk: another utility tool w/knife
- On me: Try to stay with a classic, clean look. Case or Frost Family.
