Gamecube S-Video vs Wii Component?
Hi everyone. I have a Wii with component cables as well as a Gamecube. Component is obviously better for 480p games, but my question is as follows. For non 480p compatible games, which would yield a better image: 480i on Wii over component video, or the same 480i content on a gamecube over s-video?

While Ive never ran a CGN over Svid, the nature of the technology tells you component 480i would be crisper.
Keep in mind a lot of TVs can't handle 480i over component. A lot of sets are only 480p - 1080i via component.

Thanks for the reply. I have a flatscreen CRT with component inputs as well as s-video inputs, so I was wondering if it would be worth it to buy an S-video cord for my cube and use it for 480i games, or just box it up and let the wii handle all gamecube content over the component video.
Re: Gamecube S-Video vs Wii Component?
Wii + Component will definitely look worlds better than Gamecube + SVIDEO. The Wii component cables look just as good, if not better, than the Gamecube official component cables (which obviously look better than the SVIDEO counterpart). Really the only reason to have your Gamecube out is for a GBA player. I use the Monoprice component cables with my Wii and couldn't be happier (especially for the price).
Basically, in order to achieve the quality you get from Wii component on the Gamecube, is to invest in the $160+ Gamecube component cables.

Component is prefered over Svideo. However, if you are sticking to 480i, the difference is not that huge, if even noticable. When you get the maximum use out of that component cable and set it up for 480p is where there is a HUGE difference in video quality.
For newer TVs that do not have Svideo, Component even at the 480i setting will be better then Composite.

I agree with CRT, you might not notice a difference.
And, if you're using 480i output with component cables, then I assume you're using a CRT (otherwise you'd opt for 480p). That being the case, S-Video with the Cube or component from the Wii on a CRT: Which is better? You'd have a hard time noticing any difference.
This is assuming the S-Video and component cables are decent quality. If you have the Nintendo brand component cables, but some cheap off-brand S-Video cable, and you find that the Cube with S-Video looks worse, I wouldn't be surprised.

Re: Gamecube S-Video vs Wii Component?
Wow thanks for all the info everyone! I've got the official Wii component cables, so it looks like I can use my Wii for all my Gamecube gaming (except for GBA games). I do not have a Gamecube component cable (though I wish I did!). I may still consider picking up an s-video cable anyway for my SNES and my N64 though...

Definitely worth it.
Re: Gamecube S-Video vs Wii Component?
Could someone suggest some S-Vid cables for the N64? I am actually in need.

Re: Gamecube S-Video vs Wii Component?
All the ones available right now look like complete shit quality. These are the only ones I was able to find that look like they could be decent:

If you have the means, or know some one that could help you out, your best bet are to make your own. That would ensure quality.
