Looking for Tower Defense games

Post by wclem »

I have tried Defense Grid and Toy Soldiers and found both to be fun. Any other suggestions out there?

Have you tried Pixel Junk Monsters?

Sanctum and Sanctum 2 are both awesome Tower Defense FPS games, in between rounds they play like normal TD games, but when the rounds start you also controls your character in a first person shooter to aid in the defense.

I did not care for being directly involved as much as just doing the strategic parts. That was kind of a turn off in Toy Soldiers.

Plants Vs Zombies and Kingdom Rush, if you haven't played those yet. Anomaly is also a pretty fun spin on the genre where you control the attacking convoy instead of the towers.

Does it have to be mobile phone only?

Lock's Quest on the DS was awesome.

Actually I prefer PC or Playstation 3/4.

Here's a fun little distraction: MapsTD lets you defend your own hometown (or any town I suppose) from hordes via the Google Maps interface. It's not pretty, but it's a neat way to pass the time.

Kingdom Rush is what I consider the pinnacle of Tower Defense. It has some unit interaction, you control a hero unit, but you can just leave him at his spawn point. It has a good flow, a nice variety, and makes you rethink your strategies as you go. Best of all, it goes on sale on Steam and GoG for fairly cheap. Heck I got it on a Humble Bundle.
