Smart Phone Advise - Which one to get?

Post by SpaceBooger »

I am thinking about getting a new phone. I currently have the Droid Razr Maxx (this is my 2nd refurbished one. I have had problems with it - apps closing and crashing often, but it is refurbished).

Since I am cheap, I am looking at getting one of Verizon's free ones. I have no other option (discounts and freebies) so here are the three I have narrowed it down to:

DROID MAXX by MOTOROLA (16gb version)
LG G2
HTC One

These are all free and they are not the newest versions, they are the 2013 models, the only one without a newer model as of right now is the MAXX. I like the DROID MAXX because I can get through many days with my current one (two models behind) with 40%+ battery life left, the problem is that it is sluggish and slow because it's not the most powerful phone - apps crash often on it. Since I have only had Motrola Droids, I have no idea about the other two. I have read that the HTC One will need to be charged mid day, which is annoying but it is fast and powerful. I read that the LG2 has pretty good battery life and is fast. Decisions... Decisions...

What do you guys think? I know some phones are a lot more durable than others, and that the specs on paper aren't always consistent with which phone works better.

So anyone have any of these phones and can vouch for them either way?

I only know about the one, which I hear is great. Just keep your brightness low and you should be good for battery life.

I say go for the LG, but I don't know if you're willing to root it and install a custom ROM.

Not to confuse things more, but I had considered an HTC One before I went for the Galaxy S2 (then 3, then 4), and it passed all my requirements for usability, speed, capacity, screen, etc. I messed with a co-workers, and it did what the sites said it did. He complained about the battery life. This can be alleviated with a hard-case that has a bult-in battery.
