This is my Dreamcast tate setup right now. I found a Zenith H2747DT for $15 at the Goodwill. This thing has VGA inputs on the front and rear which is pretty rare.
The only problems are that I can't get the front VGA input to work and the image is a lot smaller when in VGA mode. I've managed to increase the image size a little bit since these pics were taken by going into the installer menu but it's still not full size. The third pic shows composite input for comparison.
Problems aside, I'm still pretty happy with it cause IMHO the DC looks best on a VGA CRT.

Re: My Dreamcast VGA CRT Tate Setup
Very nice.
I've found VGA output & input on varying monitors to be touchy. The older Atari PCs, Amigas, etc will only work on the older monitors (outputting different Hz than newer machines). A lot of the older, nice CRTs in the US with SCART or VGA were originally made for medical equipment (ultrasound machines, etc), not typical PCs (or Dreamcast
). Not surprising the resolution shows up a bit smaller with how finicky VGA can be from device to device. Glad it works!

It's very cool that a TV like that has VGA, consider myself jealous. Good find.

@ Mat - Have care the HD Tube is heavier then a regular non HD tube. You might want to rotate it back to normal position and pop the back cover. Be careful of very high voltage even when unplugged around the Flyback Transformer; the fat cable going to the tube. Take a look at how the CRT is sitting inside the TV frame. My HD CRT WEGAs only has supports designed for the normal position and not rotated, yours might also have a similar situation. The plastic bezel could crack over time without proper support inside for the Tate position.

Re: My Dreamcast VGA CRT Tate Setup
Yea, it really surprised me when I saw VGA inputs but that's why I always check out the CRTs at thrift stores. Apparently this model was intended for educational and commercial use as a computer monitor. It cost over a grand back in the late 90s and the power cord is about 20' long.
I opened it up when I first got it and the tube attaches to the front half of the case with four screws at the corners of the tube as per usual. It looks pretty sturdy but I'll keep an eye on the position of the tube relative to the bezel and see if anything moves.CRTGAMER wrote:@ Mat - Have care the HD Tube is heavier then a regular non HD tube. Keep in mind you have very high voltage even when unplugged, a fire hazard should that tube drop inside.Mat wrote:I opened it up when I first got it and the tube attaches to the front half of the case with four screws at the corners of the tube as per usual. Mine has four screws too which only holds the CRT against the bezel to keep it from tipping away. That thin frame encircling the tube would eventually crack if there is no foot support. There should be a set of cradles or feet that takes the full weight of the entire tube, usually are only on the bottom under the heavy CRT. In the picture below, its the dark grey plastic at the bottom under the tube; there is another foot at the bottom on the right as well.

Re: My Dreamcast VGA CRT Tate Setup
Ok, I see what you're talking about. Eventually I'm gonna crack it open again to see if I can adjust the screen size at all on the chassis so I'll check that then. I just got home after being gone for a month and it still holding though so it'll probably be ok as long as I don't move it.CRTGAMER wrote:Keep in mind you have very high voltage even when unplugged, a fire hazard should that tube drop inside.Mat wrote:I opened it up when I first got it and the tube attaches to the front half of the case with four screws at the corners of the tube as per usual. Tube TVs hold a charge for a decent length of time even if you turn them off and unplug them.Jagosaurus wrote:Whattttt? When unplugged? Explain.Keep in mind you have very high voltage even when unplugged, a fire hazard should that tube drop inside.
