Power Base Converter Mini... Any Expereince? Looks Legit

Post by Jagosaurus »

Any have experience with this?

http://www.stoneagegamer.com/powerbase-mini.html

The official Sega PBC normally runs about $40-$50 these days. Somehow, the compact size and the $30 price tag on this is tempting...

Anyone use one? I know the PBC is essentially a pin pass through & the SMS hardware is inside the Genesis so I imagine it works fine.

I have seen/owned something like this from lik-sang, only it was a bare board.
They seem to work more or less from most reviews.

Wow, the price on those PBCs went up. I bought mine for $25.

Looks like you won't be able to use the Sega Card games with the mini version, you can on the normal one. I don't know if that matters to you.

I like how they chose Ys as the game to model. 8)

But yeah, no Sega Cards with this.

I recommend just buying a Master System. 8)

I've been curious about this myself as it would be a good solution if you're using a CDX, X'Eye, or clone system.

This might be nice for a Model 2 Genesis or the systems noise mentioned. The lack of card slot wouldn't bother me. I think we had a discussion regarding the Sega Card in the master system appreciation thread, and I think the consensus was that you can live without a Sega Card.

Now let's talk about aesthetics for a moment. The PBC mini looks like a cartridge, and that's about it. Image

Too cool. If your goal is to save money, get the PBC mini; if your goal is to rock a badass Sega system, get the original Power Base Converter.

I know a guy who found three broken SMS in the wild before his fourth finally worked. Could just be a coincidence though. Have u had a good experience with urs being durable?

I love the model 1 genesis look but want to collect for the SMS... I'll be buying this @ some point in 2014. A lot of cheap games for the SMS I want to try. ANDDD I don't have to eat up more shelf room :)

Hey guys I just ordered this thing should be here soon. I have an svideo modded model 1 so the way the jacks are a PBC won't fit on the Genesis, so this seems like a perfect solution. I do have a master system, but having one less system plugged in would be great. I'll let you guys know how this works.
