PS2 Classic Collections/Compilations - Suggestions?

Post by Jagosaurus »

Looking to buy some of the collections out on the PS2. Metal Slug Anthology is high on my list.

Any recommendations? Any to stay clear of?

... I know there are Mega Man/X, KoF, Atari. Others? Thoughts on those?

I love compilation discs, and the PS2 has a lot of them. Some of my favorites include:

Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 1
Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2
Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 1
Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 2
Mega Man Anniversary Collection
Mega Man X Collection
Metal Slug Anthology
Midway Arcade Treasures 1
Midway Arcade Treasures 2
Midway Arcade Treasures 3
Namco Museum
Namco Museum 50th Anniversary
Samurai Shodown Anthology
SNK Arcade Classics
Taito Legends Vol. 1
Taito Legends Vol. 2
World Heroes Anthology

I would also recommend Tekken 5, which is basically an anthology since it also includes the arcade versions of Tekken 1 - 3.

There's also Sonic Mega Collection Plus and the Sega Genesis collection, which mostly has cool first-party games.

I can't believe that I forgot those!

There are also The Activision Anthology, The Atari Anniversary Collection, and Intellivision Lives if you want to do some truly old-fashioned gaming.

Honestly, if you had nothing but PS2 compilation discs, you would very likely have enough games to last you for years.

EDIT: There is also Gradius III & IV and The King of Fighters: The Orochi Saga. The list of great PS2 collections goes on and on...

Somewhat on point...

Did Namco Museum: 50th Anniversary receive a "black label" release on the PS2? In other words, is there a version of Namco Museum: 50th Anniversary that does not have a "Greatest Hits" label?

I have seen images of a black label release insert, but I have never seen an actual copy of the game with that label either in the wild or online...

There are also some cool PS1 collection discs. Namco Museum 5 has Densetsu no Valkyrie and Williams Arcade Hits has Defender. Activision Anthology has Activision 2600 games.

THANKS!!!!!!

Forgot to mention I have the Sega Genesis Collection. I'm 2/3 way through Phantasy Star IV & I'm really impressed with emulation. PS2 video output & stereo audio looks wonderful as well. What triggered me to buy more.

Really want the Atari disc bc of Defender. My old man's favorite game. He got me into games in the late 80s, largely due to Defender, ha!

I recommend Intellivision Lives. A great compilation of classic INTV games and much cheaper than investing in the old hardware.

edit: prsnl_gmr mentioned it before me.
I still recommend it though. It covers most of the best titles the system has to offer.
