wanted to upgrade my genesis for a cdx. got an x eye

Post by mas »

In my last post I wanted to upgrade my genesis to a model1 and get a sega cd. I was also on the lookout for a sega cdx if i got one cheap on eBay. Well like the saying goes" good thing comes to those who waits"i just bought a JVC x eye on eBay. The wanted 129.00 with free shipping and I had 60.00 or so dollars in PayPal so I had to spend 70.00 in my own pocket. Plus he has a s video with it. I can't wait. I hope everything works. I wanted a cdx but this has to be my best find on ebay.

I have two of them. They're great consoles.

Awesome man!

Be really careful about the power supply. Do some research. It has odd specs. The wrong one will fry it. Saw a YouTube vid where someone found one almost identical at Radio Shack. Try Game Trog's sega power supply guide. Good stuff.

Thanks. I looked at the adapter as much as I could and it looks like the original JVC adapter. I can't wait. I can't wait at all. I really just wanted to only have a couple of systems this year and not go nuts anymore and just play my dreamcast, and nes to collect and play retro and play my ps2. The ps2 is.really what anyone needs. Well over 2,000 games how can you go wrong. Then I get a genesis from a friend with awesome games and I'm all over the genesis again and now I got a JVC x eye. What a great year.

if it is, then the price was good. The official JVC adapter is much harder to find than the console itself.

Well noiserdux, ill find out and keep you posted. It's comming from california so I should get it by wed or Thursday. I didnt realize but sega cd games aren't cheap anymore on ebay. Any other place to find some? Believe me I have never seen any sega cd at thrift stores in my area. Might have to wait for the flea markets. Any suggestions on what I should pick up. I love 2 d fighting arcade shmups and platformers.

Try the GOAT store. Dan who runs it is a good guy. Just realize the pics aren't always the actual item (several in stock) but he labels condition of each product well. It should be a tad cheaper than ebay.

Link to Sega CD section on GOAT:

Of course you'll want Sonic CD. Chunk Rock II is good platformer, but can get pricey. Found mine at a second hand shop. While this is an odd recommendation, try NHL '94 on Sega CD. It is really cheap and often regarded as one of the best sports games from their glory days. Rise of the Dragon is another cheap gem. A cyberpunk graphic novel game. Check out these shooters: Silpheed, Soul Star, and Robo Aleste.

The Working Design RPGs are great but pricey. You'll likely need the Sega back up RAM memory for these. If your JVC's save batt is still working I'll be impressed.

Unfortunately, the Sega CD can be expensive to "collect" for. Even if it is a cheap game, you'll spend $5 to ship in a cardboard priority box to protect the brittle long box cases.

Forgot, also look into Sol-Feace & Microcosm for shooters.
