Nice.
Get a room you two.

Add me to the list of people who will be playing Blaster Master on the NES. I've beaten it before, and even though it is a chore, I will beat it this Summer. Finding the time to beat the game will be more difficult than beating the game itself.

Okay :) decided to make my summer May 1 until September 21st. Technically supposed to start June 21, but hey I live in Texas... hot enough already!

Which reminds me, when is everyone else planning on starting?

I don't particularly want to wait until June, as I have time to get cracking right now. I'll probably get on it right after I beat Shining Force 2 for the rpg club.

I can always move up my deadline to compensate, as in the past I've always run this as a solid 3 months, regardless of where the days fall.

Here's my final list (unless I change my mind :P ) by the way:

1. Demon's Crest - SNES
2. Sonic Pocket Adventure - NGPC
3. Harvest Moon GBC - GBC
4. Panzer Dragoon - Saturn
5. Shadowrun - Genesis
6. Technoclash - Genesis
7. Ys 3: Wanderers from Ys - Genesis
8. Deus Ex - PC
9. Metal Slug 2 - PSN
10.Golden Axe 3 - Genesis

Okay. My list isn't meant to be retro at all. More of a wish list I've been putting off for various reason. I've been in major RPG mode since November '12 so it'll be nice to have some mindless fun with some on the list below:

1. Golden Sun Dark Dawn (DS)
2. Phantasy Star IV (Genesis Collection - PS2)
3. Return to Castle Wolfenstein (PS2)
4. Kill Zone (PS2)
5. Panzer Dragoon (Saturn)
6. Resident Evil Revelations (3DS)
7. D (Saturn port)
8. TBD - open slot
9.TBD - open slot
10. TBD - open slot

Panzer Dragoon really handed it to me in the last fewl levels. Might have to use level select input code but sticking to this one!

I'm a huge Wolf3D (PC & Jaguar port) fan and never played RTC Wolfenstein, should be fun.

I'm also 2/3 through PSIV, took a break. Need to finish! Long RPG.

Leaving slots 8-10 open because I want to be able to have a few spontaneous playthroughs of the dozens of titles I am considering. I really missed out on the PS2 library so I could do 10 from there alone. Also, been addicted to DS/3DS lately and might pick up some handheld titles.

I'm planning to start this on the 20th of May, as I'm off home for the weekend before and can pick up my PS2. It'll also give me time to try and beat Wild Arms before I start.

That said, I'm planning to start with Metroid Prime 3 - the idea being to hopefully unlock everything requiring the Wii Message board before it goes down. Anyone out there willing to help me do that?

Updated list of games you people are playing that shouldn't qualify:

-Beats of Rage
-Psychic World
-all of Ack's list except 7th Saga, Donkey Kong Country, and Pilotwings (I guess). I think the RPGs selected are mostly "also ran" for the genre/generation/console
-Onimusha 2
-Terranigma (this is kinda like Ack's middling RPGs, in my mind)
-Mischief Makers ("cult" classic ≠, classic)
-Witcher 2 (a lost "classic" of 2012!)
-Siren (see "Mischief Makers" above)
-----new additions-----
-Nectaris (not highly regarded)
-Decathlete (not even ironically)
-Dynamite Deca (more cult classic than classic)
-Silent Hill Shattered Memories (no Silent Hill games after 2 should count, even a "reimagining")
-Ys Origins - it is hard to think of this as a classic just yet as it is fairly new.
-Gemini Rue - no, too new and too niche
-Tales of Eternia - a He-Man game! oh, no...a "Tales" game. Are any of these considered classics? this one had pretty mediocre reviews...
-Sonic Pocket Adventure - not a "classic" Sonic game by any stretch. NGPC is shit.
-Technoclash - this is a very mediocre and boring RPG with almost zero later influence. scrap it.
-Skyward Sword (too new, mixed reception - wait for the inevitable Wii U version)
-Golden Sun Dark Dawn - far too new, mixed reviews
-RE Revelations (overpraised, too new, not a classic or likely to be one)

fix 'em up!

Here's my update. Getting close to a final list.

Definite:
1. Shining Force II (Genesis)
2. Final Fantasy Tactics (PSP)
3. MediEvil (PS1)
4. Turrican (Genesis)
5. Duck Tales (NES)
6. Commander Keen in Invasion of the Vorticons (PC)
7. Eye of the Beholder (SCD)

Maybe:
Zork (thinking of double dipping with TR)
Ys II
Alex Kidd game
Chase H.Q.
some other stuff...

I guess I technically started since I played an hour of SF2, but I will finalize list and truly "begin" in about a week or so until the calendar end of summer.

I disagree with the idea of a cult classic not counting for this personally.

As for newer stuff, maybe it does or maybe it doesn't fit. However, I think it'd be wrong to ever assume that a Zelda game wouldnt be counted as a classic in a few years time.

Sonic Pocket Adventure is regarded as a classic for Neo Geo Pocket Colour. The Tales series are considered classics on the whole amongst JRPG fans. Terranigma is definitely well thought of.

I guess this comes down to your own understanding of the word classic. I'd argue that even if it's considered a classic amongst a certain niche, it should count. You seem to define it as only widely popular and highly rated games - in which case, I guess I should get rid of Super Aleste or GG Shinobi as they're only popular amongst fans of the genre or fans of the system respectively. I certainly hear more about Terranigma, Mischief Makers or Tales of Eternia than either of those.

Unfortunately, I also don't think I have enough other unfinished classics by your definition to replace them XD

As for your list Dsheinem, I would still recommend Alex Kidd in Miracle World for one of the remaining spaces, but it's by no means an easy game to finish.
