What's the best strategy game you've played?

Brigandine is very dense. It's definitely not my cup of tea. It's probably akin to Dragon Force in some ways, or Dark Wizard on Sega CD. Actually, more the latter.

Guys.... Guys... This thread needs more PC games!

I love my consoles/handhelds as much as anyone but strategy is one genre where the PC is hard to beat.

I could go on and on about the great library of past and present strategy titles on PC. A few of these have been mentioned in this thread but I was shocked to read 8 pages without seeing some of them mentioned at all.

Personally, my favorites are Master of Orion 2, Heroes of Might and Magic 3, and Endless Legend.

I've had my eye on both Endless Legend and Age of Wonders 3. As an avid Civ 5 fan, which would you recommend more? I've just read too many mixed things about Endless Legend to be totally sure about it.

Also, I would argue that Warcraft 1 and 2 (but mostly 1) have not aged very well. Mostly due to just how freaking amazing Warcraft 3 and Starcraft 1 and 2 are.

Don't get Endless Legend, it's incredibly boringat first because it has a very steep learning curve and by the time you get the hang out of it, you discover the AI is pathethic and there's absolutely no strategy because there's no semblance of balance.

Simply beelining Tier 2 Weapons is enough of a strategy to beat the game on the highest difficulty level because the AI doesn't understand what upgrades are. Don't, bother, really.

There are A TON of strategy games in my backlog. So I need to catch up on many titles mentioned earlier in the thread. Still reading through recommendations here, but wanted to post a couple of fairly overlooked games while I had a moment.

No one ever mentions this game, but I wanted bring up Lock's Quest for the DS. Sure, it is a tower defense game at heart (before these blew up in the mobile market) but it adds light RPG elements and take a good bit of real time strategy to beat the later levels. The 16 bit look is also appealing to me . Developed by 5th Cell who went on to make Scribblenauts.





Another one I really enjoyed that no one mentions...
Tom Clany's Ghost Recon Shadow Wars (3DS)
It can be brutal. You have to keep your party alive and there are one kill grenade and sniper shots at times . This turns some folks away. Overall I had a lot of fun with it.






Fire Emblem Awakening wins for me overall. Great game. Man, I was addicted. I need to play the sequel.

I have played a ton of C&C and C&C Red Alert in my time. Must plays.

Any one try Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark on 3DS? Hoping for another hidden SRPG but not sure of the quality...

Speaking of Heroes of Might & Magic, they're all on sale in a bundle at GOG. You know, if you haven't already spent yourself into oblivion over there.

I've held strong to this point... but I'm thinking about snagging the Lands of Lore games, or at least the first two. Oh, and Shadowrun: Hong Kong. I still haven't gotten to the first two of those, though...

I think EL has improved a fair amount in the AI department since launch. Of course it still isn't perfect.

But for a Civ fan, I would recommend checking out Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes. The game has a bit of a tortured history but it's in really good shape these days and Stardock has spent a lot of time updating/patching it.

The Warlock series also has something to offer fans of Civ V as well if fantasy is the theme you are into

I first played it recently and with all the DLC so it seems like a very deep-rootted issue, sadlu
