I picked up Beyond Good and Evil, Rune and Flight Deck 6 for the PC, all for a dollar at the Swap Meet. PC games especially vintage games are always cheaper then the console versions. This is really ironic considering how some older console games are very pricey and the PC versions usually having better graphics and sometimes additional levels and addons. Some retro PC games are costly, but overall most are very inexpensive averaging a dollar at the Thrift stores.

I thought at least a new sealed PC disc version Beyond Good Evil would be pricey on line, but it can be bought NEW for only five bucks. Compare the check blocks at the Amazon site of the PS2, PS3 Download and Steam versions.

=========================================================================

REASONS WHY OLDER PC VERSION CHEAPER

1. Convenient mouse click digital download GOG and Steam versions available making the older disc version less desirable by many consumers. For example, many will buy a download PS3 or PS4 version of a PS2 game. :?

2. Older PC games are not compatible with newer PCs. Many consumers not aware of making the older games work thru patches, DOSBox or Virtual PC. The older disc version offers more permanence as a backup once it can be run. Many of the older PC games can be updated with a "No CD" patch for a convenient hard drive run. PS2 and Xbox game discs can be installed on the older console hard drive as well for the convenience disc free game play. :idea:

I wish I had a Windows XP disc w/license just for this kind of thing...

Rune fully installed in my Windows 7 (64bit) laptop. I downloaded a No CD patch so the disc no longer has to be inserted for authentication. Many of the WinXP games do work under Win 7 and there are other methods for games that do not.

For older incompatible games, you can buy online a Windows XP Install disc inexpensive and download Virtual PC for a separate shared folder install. Or for really old games, DOSBox works great, especially when setup with a Menu frontend. I have all three Operating Systems in my PC, the two older OS a simple mouse click with no reboot needed.

For whatever reason Genesis didn't get a second life among retro enthusiasts the way Nintendo and the later two Sega systems did. Maybe because Genesis games have been re-released cheaply on modern consoles so many times?

Many of the best Genesis games are either so common that it would take an insane demand to push the price up or tend to be relatively unknown by casual collectors and remain in low demand.

Ehhh, I'll disagree with you here. See $30 NES Contra as an example. Extremely common game. Genesis games seem to avoid this bubble for the most part. Even "gems" like Rocket Knight & Dynamite Headdy don't seem to go for as much as common, but soid, NES titles.

The Genesis has been an interesting system to watch over this collecting craze. The community seems to respect the console more than ever, there's a demand but folks don't seem to be as willing to fork over the dough unless it's a rare title.

I grew up on the NES & Genesis. Perhaps I have a little more nostalgia for Sega than most, and that why I find the gap, say between the SNES & Genesis prices a bit perplexing?

Agreed with Little Nemo Dream World. Game gets BRUTAL but is visually stunning. A local movie rental place had 99 cents NES rentals when I was renting Dreamcast games from there. Code Veronica X & Little Nemo were often rented together :)

Hey all I just joined this page after years of hearing good things.

Juggernaut (ps1) definitely comes to mind. I've bought two copies of this came, both complete, at retro game stores. One was $10 and the other was $5. I absolutely love this game and understand how point and click adventure games aren't everyone's cup of tea but other cult classics in the genre demand pretty high prices. a great play for anyone who is a fan of the survival horror genre and can stomach point and click. The game has a unsettling aspect due to its crude graphics and art that only adds to the scary/creepiness. Kind of like how the visuals in Doom wouldn't have been as scary if the graphics were better, haha. I feel like if juggernaut was on the Sega CD or 3do it would ask a pretty penny.

The fact that most of the PS2 Shin Megami Tensei games can be had for sub $15 shipped from Amazon still surprises me everytime I see it. Thank the lord for overproduction it has kept quite a few solid games and compilations cheap over the years.

Square Enix still has a few dozen warehouses worth of greatest hits PS1 games in the market that I don't think will be exhausted for quite a few years as well.
