I stand corrected.

Now italicize it.

It's worth looking into if you're a retro gamer. But yeah, there are a lot of duds on the N64's already tiny library.
I could, but I don't because I have played some of those "superior" versions of those games on newer consoles and they're not superior enough for me to enjoy them as much as the N64 entries. Hell, F-Zero GX is my least favorite F-Zero game. And yes, I prefer the original Smash Bros over Melee (I don't play Brawl enough to form an opinion since I don't have a Wii).

I enjoyed Mario Kart 64 more than any Mario Kart I've played that followed it. I'm not sure why, but something felt a bit 'off' about Double Dash, to me, for some reason. And the Wii one just had too many gimmicky weapons. I liked the simplistic nature of the 64 version and SNES original.

I can agree with this. Double Dash was too slow and had some lazy track design and the Wii version is infuriating on higher difficulties. Both were more multi-player oriented though.

OT: I feel as others do that the N64's lack of 2D games or ones using pre-rendered backgrounds have made it seem the ugly duckling in retrospect, but if you had one at the time it was cutting edge. There wasn't anything like Mario 64, Goldeneye or Zelda on either the playstation or saturn. Proper 3D movement was something that came out of the box, not added on later.

I'll agree, some games don't stand up. Some, like Body Harvest, barely did at the time. But there are more than enough real classics and hidden gems that'd you'd be doing yourself a disservice as a gamer by passing them up.

Anyway, a balanced diet should include Saturn, PS1 and N64 in liberal quantities. :D

I think the DS and maybe the 3DS one are usually the most heralded.

I haven't played them (actually, tell a lie, I've played the DS one once). But the only problem with those would be I don't know anyone who owns a DS/3DS to play multiplayer with. At least with the console variants, I can play a bit of multiplayer with my girlfriend or if I have friends over.

Yeah, I'm aware of that. I'd just rather play with friends I know and be in the same room so I can be social.

Whattttt. Never played so I can't fully debate but that's bold considering the Square, Enix, & Working Design lineup on PSX & SS.
