I have a suspicion that there is a type of gamer who doesn't buy many games, but the one game that they do buy they play for hundreds of hours. Do you know anyone like this? Maybe they only play World of Warcraft. Maybe they are just a perennial Madden player. Maybe they play Free Cell or Solitaire as much as fastbilly, but without the other games. Maybe they are on CounterStrike eternally and never feel the need to install anything else. Sort of like the kind of person that says they love board games, but they've really only played Life and Monopoly, but they have seriously played A LOT of Life and Monopoly.
Do these people exist? Are they hardcore or casual (not that those distinctions really matter, but I like that this player is kind of both)?
Are there any games that you have played for over 200 hours?

Active MMO players tend to be, since they can consume most of your potential game time.J T wrote:I have a suspicion that there is a type of gamer who doesn't buy many games, but the one game that they do buy they play for hundreds of hours. Do you know anyone like this?
I know from experience
I may have 200+ hours in several other MMOs, but otherwise I suspect mostly it'd be things like Street Fighter that you listed where cumulative time would add up to that. I can't think of any single player games I've put that kind of time into.
Re: Are there any games that you have played for over 200 ho
Speaking of racers, I bet Star Wars Episode 1 Pod Racer is 200+ hours.Sarge wrote:Oh, yeah, if we go the series route, Street Fighter has gotten a ton of my playtime. Easily over 200 hours once I factor in Capcom vs. SNK 2, Street Fighter Alpha 3, and Street Fighter IV. And while it's not a Street Fighter game, I've got tons of time in Marvel vs. Capcom 2.Exhuminator wrote:If I added up all the hours I ever spent on the Mario Kart series, probably over 200 on that franchise. The same goes for the Street Fighter series. Just no one game played that long is all.
I freaking swear. Felt like I got to level 70 and finally quit as the difficulty only continued to escalate beyond the heavens.
Had a lot of fun with the game, but where was the ending? lmao, has anyone here beaten it?
Re: Are there any games that you have played for over 200 ho
I have easily 1000+ in Halo CE(PC) spent pretty much all my free time on it from when it released up until my first year of college.
Other then that most of my 200+ hour games are on PC so Steam is a decent meter to go by although I'm sure there are plenty more. Steam says my only 200+ hour game is Left for Dead 2 at 266 hours although I'm sure I've sunk over 200 hours into Fallout 3 since steam has 112 hours on the GOTY edition I bought on there and I originally purchased the physical GFWL version at launch.
Sucks that apparently Xfire got shutdown hadn't messed with it in years but it had a decent track on a lot of my old Battlefield play probably had 200+ hours in BF2, BF2142, and BFBC2 since those were other games that the clan I used to play halo with supported.
The only console game that I think I could have possible sunk over 200+ hours into was Star Wars Battlefront on the PS2 although I never got around to hooking my PS2 up to the internet I did spend an insane amount of time playing galactic conquest with bots. Game would literally sat in the drive for months on end and was the first game I ever purchased new that failed on me due to excessive play
.
I was so crazy about Halo because it was my first online multiplayer experience and I got sucked into a clan pretty quickly. Would probably still be playing it if not for some political issues that finally led me to leaving my old clan after that I ended up moving on to other games. Everything else was in a similar situation it was online multiplayer and I had friends who played it so I sunk ridiculous amounts of hours into it. As for Fallout 3 I love Bethesda's open world RPGs and Fallout 3 was the first one to really suck me in. Finally Star Wars Battlefront was just an awesome game and I really loved the large scale battles on console.
Really I don't regret my time spent with any of them they were very fun experiences. Although I do wish I had put a little more time into my studies and friends though
. Moving in the middle of high school didn't help either since cut off from my friends that I grew up with I ended up spending all my time online

Re: Are there any games that you have played for over 200 ho
CE on PC was indeed amazing, had a ton of fun with that myself. So many good fan made levels. Halo and Perfect Dark are some of the older console FPS's I spent a lot of time with.
Re: Are there any games that you have played for over 200 ho
I just meant Combat Evolved although I'm sure I sunk probably 100+ hours into custom edition they had some great death mazes, race tracks, and just flat out massive maps that I loved hoping into every now and then. I still think the Halo (PC) had the best multiplayer because it was so much more focused on skill none of the weapons locked on, vehicles were extremely valuable since they were indestructible and wouldn't respawn to their home base unless left alone for a minute or two, and the default pistol was amazing as opposed to a gimped piece of garbage. The PC version also had some great exclusive maps which I think may have made their way into the Master Chief Collection since essentially they just ported the PC version over but I'm not 100% sure since the MP was a mess with that compilation and I only played a few hours of it before moving on to something else. There was also the added bonus that on PC you had dedicated servers so the owners could police their own games and lag was rarely an issue.
About the only thing Halo (PC) was missing was co-op which was no biggie but it would have been awesome to have had it back then.

Several of the guys that I play in my online franchise with every year only really play madden, maybe 1 or 2 other sports games.J T wrote:I have a suspicion that there is a type of gamer who doesn't buy many games, but the one game that they do buy they play for hundreds of hours. I also know several who only play League of Legends or an MMO exclusively.

Re: Are there any games that you have played for over 200 ho
I've easily played 200 one hour sittings of Super Mario Brothers 3. I imagine I've probably sunk more like 400 hours into that game over the past 25 years...
TMNT 2 Arcade on NES in also in the 200+ range. Same story as SMB3.
While this may see random, my roommate and I got addicted to The Conduit on the Wii. I can't explain it. Something about the poor mans Halo on the Wii, with extremely accurate point and shoot controls. In addition to picking up the game here and there, we played the multiplayer every night after work for a few months. Easily hit 200 hours there. There was a decent community online for that one.
While I enjoy RPGs, don't think I've ever invested more than 80 hours into one.

Re: Are there any games that you have played for over 200 ho
Some of these go way above 200 hours.
Probably some I am forgetting, I tend to play games past their expiration date.
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy XIV ARR
World of Warcraft
Phantasy Star Online
Diablo 3
Mushihimesama Futari
Disgaea (500 hours, one playthrough)
Mega Man X
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth
The Division
Pokemon Blue/Pokemon Y
Monster Hunter 3
Sonic 1
Final Fantasy XII came close, 180 hours for a single playthrough.
Probably another half dozen that are closing in on the 200 hour mark, and that I am still playing. Probably why I am so slow at getting around to other good games

Re: Are there any games that you have played for over 200 ho
There are definitely a lot more in cumulative time played, but in recorded time on savegames for a single playthrough these stand out:
Final Fantasy 7: Well over 600 hours over the years - Time well spent! PS4 Remake=Day 1 buy of console and game.
Final Fantasy 8: In a single playthrough - several times. Time well spent. Carding enemies is insidious in it's necessity for a low level playthrough.
Castlevania SOTN: It was for science! I attempted to manually reverse engineer this game in a failed attempt to recreate it's engine for online multiplayer. Time... Well spent. Just wish that hard-drive crash hadn't destroyed all my carefully recorded data. I did manually make myself an ultimate bloody Muramasa. Tape on the Attack button is for wimps.
I'm gonna throw in Diablo 1&2 just because. That was definitely a waste of time. Half the time I was multitasking and I developed a way to play left-handed while operating another computer while I mined for items. Definitely regret.
So glad I realized I'd be addicted to MMO games if I tried them. Smoking for 17 years took some of my life. Not living my life would've done worse.
