Planescape Torment is a great book, but only a so-so game. It has a tremendously interesting story, excellent characters, and a very unique atmosphere. But the actual gameplay can be a bit stagnant at times. I think you'd enjoy it, but be prepared to read and read and read some more.

I say that based off putting 20 hours in the game and not finishing it.

Yeah, I agree with you Exhuminator. The impression I got is that if Planescape Torment were my gamemaster, I would have had a long talk with him long ago. I mean, sure, it's well-written but...I don't care. It's not my story. When the game starts monologuing, I'm not involved in any way, shape or form and if I'm not...well, I can read better books than it and in less time.

Yeah that's why I quit playing, well that and I'd spent 20 hours wandering Sigil and I really wanted to visit some other planes by then.

Yeah, that's the only thing about the game; there isn't nearly as much plane hopping as the name implies. It really is focused on Sigil with the occasional detour to another plane for a single dungeon's worth.

It should be called Planestay Torment.

I don't want to give the impression I think it's a bad game though. It's definitely upper echelon material. I plan to replay it someday, as now I know the end of the game gets really interesting and is worth reaching. (Circa 2009 I was dating a girl who beat the game and she showed me some of the final areas.)

After a bit of a RPG hiatus due to an awesome newborn kiddo & limited time,

just bought .hack//infection

.... how in trouble am I?

A bit more free time on my hands with him sleeping more. Have a feeling this one will be addicting.

"addicting" implies that the game would actually be good.
