I definitely don't hate CV2. It has its problems, but it also has some cool things. I love the music, for one. And hey, I'd rather play CV2 than Haunted Castle.

Oh yeah, CV2's music is amazing. And I appreciate how it served as the first attempt at the Metroidvania style.

If I recall correctly, the MSX Akumajou Dracula (Which was the base for the NES game despite being released later) was already that.

Also (If I remember correctly, which I probably don't), the director of CVII was the same as the MSX Akumajou Dracula while NES Castlevania was done by a different team.

It also bothers me that there are flying candles everywhere for no apparent reason. Stage designs aren't exactly logical in this game

The stairs are fine, the camera is on the wrong side.

... Guessing with invisible blocks?? You mean you don't just spam holy water all day every day in the mansions like a reasonable human being? What are you doing with your life, son?
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

Absolutely, it is good stuff. The next game Portrait of Ruin is not as good unfortunately due to a recycled content filled back end. However, Order of Ecclesia, the third DS game, is the best Igavania outside SotN. If you haven't played it yet, you're in for a really good time.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Are people hacking/modding DS games yet? If someone would remove the two touch gimmicks in Dawn it would be pretty much a perfect game.

Not sure how big the scene is, but there's been NSMB hacks for a while now.

My first time through Portrait of Ruin I wasn't a big fan. I got bored and quit about half way in probably because my expectations were way too high after the Aria games. On my second visit I really got into it. I like the two character gimmick and the variety of locations due to the portraits. The tag-team final boss fight is also one of my favorites.

One of my only complaints about it now is once you get the Vampire Killer there's pretty much no reason to use any other weapons (Having an indisputably best weapon is a problem with most Igavania's though). Charlotte had some really crazy boss-busting spells and that attack where Jonathan summons all of the spirits of the past Belmonts was pretty sweet as well. As an anniversary game I felt they did a pretty decent job, plus it continues the story of Bloodlines which is one of my favorite Castlevania games.

Order of Ecclesia has become one of my favorites as well though. Not only is the difficulty great but the style and atmosphere was perfect and Shanoa is one of the coolest protagonists in the series.
