Battle of Olympus
Sword of Hope 2
that's a double no go
Because they're not good, or not eligible?

Some people consider Battle of Olympus one! ;) Agreed with Sword of Hope II, though.

I think it would be a cult classic at best. I'm sure there must be some better candidates to choose from on your list of unbeaten games...

Hey Sarge, have you got a list of unbeaten games sitting around? We could peruse it and throw out some titles for you.

I promise we won't make you play through 500 levels of Populous.

You'd be surprised. ;)

Let's look at the "Defining Games" lists... hrm, beat all the NES ones, unless the honorable mention Adventure Island games count.

SNES... well, crap, there's one right there. I never finished Donkey Kong Country 2, and it's supposed to be the best of the series. Never finished Star Fox or F-Zero, either. Maybe Earthworm Jim or Flashback from the honorable mentions.

Genesis... several I haven't finished, but not interested in. Maybe Revenge of Shinobi. Or Shining in the Darkness if I decide to go for an RPG.

Saturn... the 800-lb gorilla is Shining Force III. Don't want that kind of investment, though!

PSX... never finished a Crash or Spyro game. Might do one of those. Also, I've never beaten a single Resident Evil game.

N64... working on Majora's Mask, that should totally count, even if it's the 3DS version. Never beat the Banjo games. Never beat Goldeneye or Perfect Dark.

GBA... probably need to play through all the Zero games, only finished the first two.

That... might take a long time to put together. I'd forgotten the "classic" stipulation, but I'll definitely find something, and probably several off of what I just listed.

Start throwin' out RPGs, though, and if they're SNES/Genesis/NES, I've probably already beaten them. :P

I basically agree with this.

This isn't a backlog-clearing thread. These should be self-evident bonafide classics.

Many of the games you listed in your subsequent post were solid candidates though, Sarge. I, too, no longer have eligible console RPGs.

I've been mulling this over, and here are my musts:

1. Metroid
2. Super Mario Bros.
3. Donkey Kong Country
4. MOTHER

More possibilities for extra credit, in no particular order:

5. Super Mario World
6. Earthworm Jim
7. Phantasy Star III (does this count?)
8. Tecmo Bowl
9. F-Zero
10. WCW World Championship Wrestling (not sure about this one either)
11. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
12. Maniac Mansion
13. LOOM

I obviously didn't grow up a Nintendo kid, so I'm looking at this as an unofficial "Summer of SNES/NES." I'm gonna get educated.

A few of these are games I've come within a hair of finishing and haven't picked up since I tripped at the finish line, too. Time to get things done.

I am being gentle when I say I was not a Mario fan as a kid. There's footage of me dissing the NES at the tender age of seven. We're talking multiple "yucks" and thumbs-down gestures. Strong stuff, man.

Somehow I got myself determined to beat the game as a teenager and made it to World 8, but I either got stuck or aggravated/apathetic enough to abandon mission. I'm going to try to enjoy it this time. I think my dogbone controller will help immensely with this.

I haven't beaten any of the other Marios, either. I didn't have Mario 2 until high school and never made a serious attempt, and I had a traumatic experience involving a brownout at the final castle of Mario 3 that's still difficult to reflect on.
