This is still relevant in Mexico even a few days after Perro Aguayo's death.

This is the next city over from where I live. A lot of people are still talking about it here locally.

Here's more or less the gist of it. So sad.

http://deadspin.com/mexican-wrestling-s ... 1692824531

Yeah, some authorities want to find someone to take the fall on the wrestlers death. But thats just trying to place the blame on something.

Lots of countries have weird legal systems.

I dont think Rey Mysterio can be found guilty of manslaughter. But that may be up to mexican courts to decide if they issue the arrest warrant.

Many people that have seen the video can tell (or armchaired it) that he died of the injuries from the rebound. A freak accident.

Its not unlike an athlete getting a heart attack mid game or someone that had a blood clot finally come loose. We just dont know for sure.

How many similar injuries have athletes escaped from that surely would have killed others. Which of many are hanging on a thread wondering if their next match will be their last or if one day they simply wont wake up from bed?

Rey Mysterio was a pallbearer at Perro aguayo's funeral. He even took off his mask.

The video there should continue a playlist for other videos on the subject.

Lets see what happens next. Mexican culture takes a good long time to finally let someone to rest. Popstars and heroes are idolized for many years to come.

I find it disrespectful that someone in that footage was wearing his mask in the funeral. I heard once that in Mexico its a thing that a wrestler never takes off his mask to hide his identity, but I thought this was over in the age of Wikipedia and YouTube.

People serve in government there with their masks on. It isn't disrespectful at all. It has nothing to do with hiding their identity, just a cultural thing.

its a culture thing then, but why did Rey didn't wear his mask then? I thought he didn't because it showed respect

Bah! I hate wrestling. I especially hate wrestlers and their sons!

Alright guys, I've been considering getting back into wrestling. One main reason, it's fun for me.

I know WWE can be a train wreck these days but it's easily accessible for me. I'm also looking to get into some of the independent stuff. Been doing a bit of homework but need some help...

I have Dish (120+ package) so I get USA, SyFy, & Destination America. Meaning I can watch/record: WWE Raw, WWE Smack Down, & TNA Impact.

Am I missing much with WWE Main Event on Hulu? Really not looking to add Hulu or WWE Network. Is NXT televised?

What about ROH, is it PPV only? Maybe it's a Web cast these days?

Any other companies outside of WWE, TNA, & ROH that I should be watching? Feel like I'm missing another "notable" organization?

Basically looking to get into it without spending more than I currently do by adding subscriptions. Suggestions?

-----
Edit: Hm, seeing that WWE Network includes all the PPVs. Pretty cool.

I actually watched the last Wrestlemania, I was intrigued by everyone booing Roman Reigns.

But I can't get into wrestling. Wish I could, though. Some of the best TV writing is about wrestling.

I do watch a ridiculous amount of MMA, though, so I get my fix of fighting rivalries, and the fights are not scripted, so I get my sports fix too.

haven't watched wrasslin for years but did go to mma from there long time ago, so i feel ya. they may be a little scripting as in the pre fight hype/hatred to sell tickets. conor mcgregor has been doing a good job for his upcoming fight, btw i hope aldo beats his eyes shut. khabib running his suck to and i'd like cerrone to shut it for him but i bet he gets tossed all over the octagon for 5 rounds. a shame, he's one of my favorites but tdd sucks.

First of all, forget WWE and TNA. They both suck. Well, except for NXT. That's good. It's exclusively on the WWE network though, but you can easily find online websites that let you watch NXT after it airs on WWE's network. Do some googling *cough* bollyrulez *cough*

WWE Main Event is worthless, nothing meaningful happens there

Lucha Underground is by FAR the best wrestling product on TV right now. They are on the El Rey network. If you check for Lucha Underground on youtube and facebook, you'll find that they put up many of their matches for viewing for free. If you can, try and watch Lucha Underground from the first episode (use sites like youtube, dailymotion, etc.). I say this because Lucha Underground is the only wrestling promotion on TV that puts serious effort into its storytelling and cares about its continuity. But you can just jump in without getting caught up if you want, you won't be too lost. Lucha Underground is very accessible, in part because they are still very young and new. They only started airing on TV last October

Be prepared though, Lucha Underground has a bit of a different style than WWE or TNA. It's presented like a TV series rather than a wrestling promotion, which means backstage segments feel like a scene from a TV series or movie. And they do a lot of video packages showing wrestlers' back stories which come across like movie flashbacks. Everything is done in a very Robert Rodriguez style as he's a producer and a big part of the El Rey Network. Think of LU as a TV series about an Underground Aztec Temple where warriors fight it out in wrestling matches.

Lucha Underground is cutting edge stuff. They do things WWE and TNA don't do and they take old ideas and redefine them too. For example, they recently introduced a tournament for a new tag title belt, but the belt is for 3 on 3 tag teams, and teams can be a mix of men and women. Also, their matches are rarely not good and they often do things in the ring I haven't seen before. In many ways, Lucha Underground feels like a modern ECW. John Morrison has been killing it down there. Alberto Del Rio is also there defending the AAA Championship (AAA is the Mexican wrestling promotion that provides most of the talent you see on Lucha Underground). And we're supposed to see Rey Mysterio Jr. debut there at some point.

People are also very high on New Japan Pro Wrestling. AXS tv has a weekly show on Fridays where they show old, classic matches with English commentary. The matches are great, and the commentary will educate you about Japanese wrestling and New Japan's history. If you want to keep up with New Japan's current product, they have a streaming service that is just like WWE's (and 1 dollar cheaper). However, everything is in Japanese. It's not too hard to follow what's going on though, but you won't understand the commentary or any wrestler promos (except the ones from American wrestlers like the members of the Bullet Club). NJPW is interesting because they present wrestling like a legit sport. It's kind of like watching UFC. They are more "sports" than "sports entertainment". Also, matches incorporate a lot of stiff hits (which means they are legitimately hitting each other) and mixed martial arts influences. There's also a strong emphasis on toughness or "fighting spirit". Wrestlers will often no sell strikes to show how tough they are, and beg their opponent to hit them again. And they even sometimes kick out of finishers after a 1 count just to show how badass they are. Their matches have a bit of a different feel than American wrestling. Some feel they have the best matches in wrestling today, but that's debatable.

Ring of Honor is great, and has a weekly show on TV that airs multiple times on weekends. Channel depends on where you live. It will be on a Sinclair Network. They have pay per views on TV like WWE. Their most recent one was their 13th Anniversary show in Vegas and it was really good. You can also watches PPVs and just about anything else they do on their website if you become a member. A free membership lets you watch their TV episodes after their air, watching PPVs and other stuff costs money though

Interesting thing about Ring of Honor is that they have guys who go back and forth between them and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Last weekend, AJ Styles was on Ring of Honor sporting his New Japan title belt and there is an upcoming event where Ring of Honor talent will be wrestling New Japan wrestlers. There's a partnership between both companies, which can make watching BOTH products more fun

ROH, Lucha Underground, and New Japan are the best things in wrestling right now (not counting indie promotions that have no TV presence). NXT is excellent too, but beyond that WWE's product is garbage

Nice response. I was an ECW fan back in the day (in the window Raven was there before he got popular in WCW). I'll check those out. Heard similar recommendations on a few podcast.

Yeah, I just watched ROH from last week. I was pretty impressed actually. Looked better than the recent clips of TNA I've seen. Looks like the free access get you the newest TV content on Thursday (comes on TV Saturday or Sunday before). I don't get those local channels it broadcast on so I'll be checking it out this on Thursdays. I actually know both guys on the card for the main event, AJ Styles and Jay Brisco. Looking forward to that. Aired tonight for folks with TV access.

Very cool they do cross overs with New Japan Pro. Are those also televised/free on the site?

Because I haven't tuned in for so long, I'll check out WEE and TNA this week. Should be interested

Edit: Seems the crossovers are PPV listed as Global Wars.
