Best, Cheap Way To Frame Posters

Post by Jagosaurus »

Okay... so if you followed my thread a few months back regarding my new house & game room build, you'll know my new game room walls are bare. Time to hang some posters!

I'd like to have them in frames but not spend an arm & a leg. What have you guys used? I'll be framing odd shaped gaming posters & hopefully some movie posters.

Movie posters seem easy enough due to the standard size but pls recommended some frames you've had good experiences with.

It's the smaller, odd dimension gaming posters I don't know what to do with. Were talking posters such as the pack in Sonic 2, Toe Jam & Earl, etc.

Pics welcome & thanks!

For movie posters sized head to Ikea:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90268867/
It comes in several colours and looks great. My fate of Atlantis poster is framed in one of the medium brown ones and looks stunning.

For other prints, I would buy on Amazon frames made by Art To Frames. Ive bought about one hundred frames through them, and if you can attach the wirebrackets (power screwdriver or driver and a measuring tape) on the back its easy peasy.

I also have hunted second hand stores for frames for one off pieces. I pulled a nice wooden frame out of someones trash that after a quick cleaning and some restore a finish it looked awesome enough for a Totoro sketch a friend did for me years ago and now hangs in my guest bedroom.

Thanks. So on that Ikea frame, if your poster is slightly larger than the print area, can you place it "over" the mat instead of "within" the designated print area. Or would you just opt to place it "within" and have some of the poster hidden? Imagine the later would look nicer depending on how raised the mat is. $20 is a great price on that.

If it is the same as when I bought mine, I just threw the mat out.

Do flip the paper that comes with it around - it should be white glossy paper. That way if the poster moves you can tell, and it protects the back.

Hobby Lobby is where I got all of my poster sized frames. They have an amazing selection at very good prices. Every other week one half of the store goes on sale including frames. If its not on sale the one week it will be the very next one like clock work. Nice small to full size poster frames can be had for $5-10 each.

Ikea is probably one of the easiest and cheapest ways to go (see picture).

You can also go the custom framing route and wait for a good sale at a place like Michael's.

8bit, I didn't think of hobby lobby for cheap options. Only ever had them professionally frame a diploma & they were proud of it lol. Will check out their stock frames.

Ferret, those look awesome!

I forget how much I paid, but I was able to get some movie poster frames at Micheal's for not a lot of money. Thing is, it seems like they constantly go on and off sale. So if they're not on sale, just check back until they are.

They have different styles, and they're not the typical cheap thin plastic frame like what you'd find at Wal Mart or such.
