hmm....I don't know, I didn't like Streets of Rage as much. The game just didn't play as well with the 3DS's circle pad, as Sonic did (which is strange imo, usually 2D platformers don't work well with control sticks, but this one plays like a charm).
Can't you use the D-Pad? I was almost certain that was how I played. I would not play Sonic with the circle pad either, D-Pad all the way.
Streets of Rage port has a few things going for it imo.
1.) Local co-op. If you happen to know someone else with the game, you can both play on your individual 3ds. It works fairly well, too.
2.) Fists of Death mode. Kinda silly fun, and certainly ruins the core of the game, but running through with a friend killing everything in one hit is just a blast, and makes for a good quick session of the game.
3.) 3D in belt-scrolling games is glorious. I'm used to the genre, but having my gf/friends play, they all say it is immediately easier for them to tell exactly what level or plane they are in, and whether or not they are lined up with the enemy. I also like it for the little things, like having lamp posts or phone booths in front of the belt, giving great depth to the game.
And yeah, Sonic Advance is great, as is the 2nd game. That Sonic 1 port though, holy god. I got to labrynth zone and just could not control my rage. The water, the slowdown.... good lord.
