Prototype Rare NES game - Mickey's Safari in letterland HELP

Hi, Recently I went through all of my NES games as a kid and I had quite a collection. My question is that I came across a game that simply doesnt make sense. From every pic I found on the internet, There are a couple of these cartridges from EA and others are classified as Prototypes and testers. The one I found in my collection is Mickey's Safari in Letterland and I did not have anyidea what it was worth. I decided to list it on ebay and within 12 hours, 2 people asked to purchase it immediately and one of those offers was for $1,000. So obviously it piqued my interest and I am at this point ready to close the auction and look into what this really is. Can someone help me out?!?? Do any of you have any idea what this is and what it possibly can go for??

No idea what it's worth, but given what some of the rarest NES carts have gone for (multiple thousands), I'd hold off selling it until you have a better idea of the actual value.

Put dark tape over those windows on the exposed chips! UV Light erases them when they're exposed like you have them in the picture.

I would recommend you make sure it still functions as well. It might already be corrupted.

If all is well, I would suggest going over to a board like Nintendo Age and asking around there for prototype pricing. You're going to have to open it up to confirm things, though. But they should be very helpful.

But again, before you do anything .... cover up the windows on the EEPROM chips. It's imperative!

Guys, Thank you so much for the valuable info!! The cart has been in a closet for probably close to 20 years. I picked it up, brought it home and tested it along with taking the pics. I am so stressed about this and you guys have been great with the info. Thank you so much!!!

I can second the comments. That's totally a prototype cartridge. I'd shut down the auction and take the hit if there is one, you need to do much more research or get someone on here to do it as this place is reliable and won't try and poach it off you for being unknowing. Some protos are worth hundreds, others thousands. It depends on lots of stuff from subject matter, system, and if what you have there is different than the retail game and if so, how much, and if you have a game that never came out, that's even better. As it was said, get some black tape over those windows on the chip, UV will eat the game alive and then it is lost. Perhaps if you can't do it, find someone who is honorable and known to be to send it to and have the game dumped to a computer so it can be backed up to be on the safe side.

I'm not certain if they have an account here, but the Nolan Bros are known online to buy up a lot of protos and be very honorable and helpful in such matters of buying or backing up stuff and that could be an outlet. I have no idea if $1000 was high, low, fair, but they would.

Hey guys, So I had to go out and buy the bit to open it up. I took some pics and am posting them below. I am trying to get info to make an informed decision. I mean, the guy on ebay didnt care about anything as far as the game goes. Offered $1k without asking for inside pics or anything else. Either he knows something or he has money to burn. I personally am no collector, but I do love playing these games. So if I can sell it to the right person, then I'm all for it. I just dont want to get ripped off. I have seen what some of these go for. ANyhow. If anyone has any more advice, please send it my way. I truly appreciate all of your time. You guys are great.

If it helps I know some1 who sold a Flinstone NES proto for around $700 (high 600s IIRC). There were no real differences to retail version.

As already stated, any variance from retail version can jack the price up.

Also this is a learning game versus a sought after, popular title so keep that in mind.
