I guess I just don't get it.
Yeah rly. IT'S DESIGNED TO PLAY REAL CARTRIDGES. DO THAT.

Hyperkin is doing a heck of a job putting in new stuff and fixing other stuff people are suggesting. I guess the trolls are running out of bridges so they want to see if it can do stuff it probably wasn't designed to in the first place.

Can confirm that DKC problems are fixed. Played for 20 minutes, let it sit on the stage-select screen for a while then came back and played for another hour. No video issues.
Yes! Now that the tech is reading all of our suggestions and threads, it's good to see.

There, that was my statement that hopefully they'll catch wind of.

Coming to the English patch conversation late...

Am I understanding correctly... you can DL an English patch & place on console (via USB or SD?)... then use with a cart from Japan? No repro cart with patch pre-loaded needed?

Exactly, there's a game menu where you access the patches, and you select the one from your sd card. So far it has to be the same name as the game(so bahumut lagoon patch has to be "bahumut lagoon" without the quotes). It's a nice feature not needed a repro(since those will probably never work)

Yes!!!

Download a patch (.ips or .ups) extension. Put it on an SD card.

Insert the Japanese cart. In the game setting menu there is an option to apply the patch.

The game will launch in English.

It's amazing.

Oh and I just ordered Mother 3. 8)

At first I thought it might be cool to see if someone could hack this thing to play ROMs, but now that I'm aware of the emulation software running under the hood, the idea is kind of pointless. Just get some sort of RetroArch setup and you'd be good to go, and it'd be a hell of a lot cheaper.

Not necessarily. I saw a few arguments made that if you get the cheap parts to dongle a real controller into it, it adds in some input lag that'll jack up some of the old games. A solid one without any lag like the R5 can run upwards of $75. When you then figure building your own box or finding one comparably in hardware it's not worth it short of making some whiny stand on some lame form of principle against the thing. I saw this brought up in that assemblergames thread with a few getting all witch hunty over what they assume is going on under the hood there.

An MK808 Android stick can be had for $40 (same processor as the R5). Pair it with a DualShock 3 and a Micro SD card for storage, and you're still under $100.

But that's really for anyone with the misguided notion to run ROMs on the R5. That's not what people should be buying it for.

Yeah you could do that setup with a DS3, but you're still not using original controllers. Don't care what anyone says, it's not the same if you're not using original controllers, and you can't do that lagless on a PC. <3 Retron 5 <3
