Console w Biggest Love It or Hate It Factor?
So which console do you think has the biggest "love it or hate it" factor? In other words, a dichotomous base today... ppl tend to be big fans or want no part of it.
I think to the masses it's the N64.
There are huge fans who like the cartridges, have great memories, & enjoy playing it today.
There are major haters who aren't fans of the limited storage medium, were PSX or SS fans that gen, & think the games are terrible today.
I lean more towards the first camp but my favorite games were Ocarina of Time, Star Fox, & Mario Kart 64. I have the first two on 3DS & my favorite tracks from Mario Kart are on the DS port lol. BC this... don't own one anymore.
My honorable mentions:
- GameCube
- Jaguar

PS3 - For many well documented reasons. Sony's handling of the PS4 shows they've learned a lot though
Wii - For catering to non-gamers almost exclusively
360 - Simply for introducing many modern gaming trends that are a turn off to a lot of gamers. Microsoft has irrevocably ruined gaming in a lot of ways
Basically all 3 consoles of the last gen

For me it has to be the gc and n64. I lean more towards the love camp on it because I grew up with them and the games are great. N64 especially, while i do wish they'd gone with a disc system then that would've set them up for more games potentially, I still perfer my cartridge based systems almost every time. There's just something about plugging that in that gives a rush(plus dk64 is still amazing, that game deserves a port that nintendo will never give it)

The N64 and Wii would definitely be at the top of my list.
The former for having very little game variety but being something of a technical achievement when it came out and the latter for having tons of shit and, as Gamerforlife said, being completely targeted towards people who don't play games.
Interestingly, I hate the N64 and love the Wii.

Older. Not wiser.

Yet oddly enough if we we're in some other country than the US there seemed to be a lot more geared towards more mature crowds...honestly though it's nice that wii has the games it does because it doesn't seem like osme of the devs are as interested in creating great 3d platformers(aside from a few stray ones, and some indie titles...)RyaNtheSlayA wrote:The N64 and Wii would definitely be at the top of my list.

N64 and Wii are both amazing.
And I agree that both are "love it or hate it" consoles.
I'm still shocked by how many retro gamers don't like the N64. It has an incredible game library. And like the Saturn there is a decent number of essential import titles.
Wii is stereotyped as being full of shovelware and casual games, though I find that its exclusive line-up greatly outclassed the competition.
Consoles like the 3DO and TurboGrafx-16 aren't "love it or hate it" as much as they are "love it or ignore it."

Re: Console w Biggest Love It or Hate It Factor?
I hate N64 more than I should because I regret initially getting over a PS1 when I was a kid. I have fond memories of some games though. My other issue was lack of rpgs and the shitty controller.
I am still not a big fan of the Gamecube beyond a few games like Smash and a couple of the RPGs.
I also dislike the Dreamcast. I dont like the controller and many of the games just dont do it for me.

Hmmm I didn't even think about the Wii BC I enjoyed it so much lol.
I dig the N64 carts also. Unfortunately it was a huge perceived barrier to RPG devs @ the time. I think Resident Evil 2 proves you can really squeeze a lot out of the format but RPG devs then were all about CDROM.
Good point Bonez @ TG16 & 3DO... ignored by most. I mentioned the Jaguar BC ppl really tend to dog it. I for one, think there are 15 titles that are great & really enjoy the Jag. I think most ppl hating on it have never played it or held the surprisingly comfortable controller (even if it does look like a phone

I think virtually every console still talked about on a regular basis is "good" in at least some fashion.
Even the CD-I has some solid titles. It's probably the worst system that I'd still consider worth owning.

Re: Console w Biggest Love It or Hate It Factor?
I really am impressed with what the Amiga could do for a mid-80's computer, but can we agree just how stupid it is for a 16-bit machine to have a one-button joystick?
