Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
Began testing games w/ patches this afternoon. Positive results so far (ie: everything tested has worked!). Expect a full list this evening.
A few things:
1. Make sure you have the latest update (BETA 3). You will need to mess with header settings to get certain games to load properly.
2. Rename your patches so they are identical to the name of the game (as the R5 reads it). So Star Ocean needs Star Ocean.ips, not soeng.ips or whatever.
3. Saves remain intact after patching. Yes, even those old saves made on a SNES / Super Famicom.

Awesome, man. Glad I could help out in a small way.darsparx wrote:Looks like thanks to a tip from foxhound i'll be going to fye in concord....they have retron 5's in stock ^_^ now I just need to find a cheap hdmi switch(and probably a actual tv even though I will probably continue to use my soundbar) but later since I need to get there as quick as i can. At least the guy(the assistant manager no less) put it on hold. Before I get home with it did they ever fix that save destroyer bug(I haven't read much of the pages to see if someone has mentioned that or not)?

One thing to keep in mind if you have any interest in ROM hacks, the Retron does NOT create a SEPARATE SRAM save for your hacked ROM. I tried switching back and forth between Mario World and Return to Dinosaur Land last night, and they are definitely sharing save files, so my Super Mario World save slot 1 got borcked.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Began testing games w/ patches this afternoon. So ESPECIALLY if you are going to mess with Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes or any other hack involving a save you worked long and hard on (that's what she said), be careful.

Good to know. I hadn't even considered hack patches yet, just translations.

This will sound so 80s terrible, but blow on the cart pins. I hate even saying that as it's a moisture thing but I found a few times when it got bitchy about running a game that got it to transfer 100% without the crc check failure doing unknown cart.
And yes, I used a q-tip with rubbing alcohol to cleaned the pins. It didn't work last night after I tried that.

And how! Let me count the ways.Jagosaurus wrote:Hobie freaks out in 3, 2, 1 .... lol
Hobie-wan wrote:Are your games cleaned? If the games are dirty, a new and fuctional 72 pin connector won't help. Also, DO NOT blow in your games, ever. That dampens the cart edge which leads to more corrosion.
Hobie-wan wrote:Oh, and you aren't blowing on the games, right? DO NOT blow on your games ever again. That's actually the main cause of blinkies in the first place. The moisture in your breath and accidental spit corrodes the contacts as it dries.
It's all good, he doesn't come by often right?Hobie-wan wrote:I was disappointed by the number of results for me saying "do not blow" on carts. I'm at a loss what else I might say too often. Halpz!

I must have been sleeping that day and too much shittyness at work today. I'll have to send the death squads around later.

Puyo Puyo wouldn't read. Wiped with Q-Tip with no result. Blew in cart. Works.

Geez you guys were right about the monster grip....went to take out the flintstones game and thought I was going to tear up the system in the process trying to get it out. I was lifting it straight up but it sounded like velcro coming apart... (edit: I also got mine for basically 135 with the trial discount from fye
)
edit: also I hate to say it but I might be taking my snes and nes to my dad's now that I have the retron...only problem is until I get a hd tv or a switch(with sound out, I'm really trying to do my research on it before just buying something
) I won't be playing it with sound

Dude, watch the video hyperkin posted on how to remove carts, makes a huge difference. Hold down system with one hand, and pull from one bottom corner.
