Correct alienjesus, I was referring primarily to launch, first couple of years. The DS lived long enough to get out of the 3D fad.

With that said... coupling my previous thought with the fact the two earlier models of the DS played GBA carts, there wasn't a huge push for 2D ports.

And while the DS kind of very well grew out of the 3D, the GBA kind of grew into it a bit as time went on. It started with polygon skaters in an isometric world and on the back end turned things like the PC game Wing Commander Prophecy into a very well copied 3D space flight shooter, various racing games and an Asterix third person platformer with the V3D engine.

The BlueRoses engine that most 3D GBA games used was pretty impressive.

Yeah that engine (blue roses) is mind blowing. Wing Commander was the most successful use of it, but I think Smashing Drive also worked using that as well.

The stuff out of Atari(Infogrames) which had hired that team who did the V3D engine gave us V-Rally 3, Stuntman, and Asterix & Obelix.

I know there's various others, some look good like Top Gear Rally and Driver3D, and others which use fake 3D (raycasting) engines vary from excellent (DOOM1/2/Duke3D) to completely eye bleedingly shit (Serious Sam, Cruisin Exotica.) There is that one bitching stand out though, mind blowing how well they pulled it off, but it's a mix of 3D world with 2D sprites -- Grand Theft Auto Advance. That one has a big world like GTA3, top down view of it all in 3D everything including some objects like signs/light poles, yet the rest is all sprite based and it runs amazing.

As far as first-party Nintendo 64 games go, Diddy Kong Racing and Super Mario 64 were ported to the DS, and Star Fox 64 and Ocarina of Time to the 3DS. It's a start. Kirby 64 didn't end up ported to a handheld but is on the Wii Kirby Collection. What I'd like to see now is a 3DS Majora's Mask.

Diddy Kong Racing on the DS was a horrible, HORRIBLE port.

What made it horrible, HORRIBLE? I enjoyed it myself.

100% agree. Yet another no-brainer easy sale Nintendo is pissing away.

I say we should wait for next year. They have their easy sells now with smash and hoenn (YES) remake this year.

I'm not opposed to the idea of bringing back Majora's Mask. At the same time I just can't forget how many people were on the fence with it when it first came out. Great game but I could understand Nintendo's hesitancy to port it. I remember so many kids complaining about the 3 day cycle at Funcoland lol
