Yeah the new 3DS font compared to the old DS font is leagues better too.

Is X-2 really worth a run?

I'm trying to approach it with an open mind but yikes. It feels like it is what it is, it embraces itself... but do I want a silly fusion of JPop and JRPG? It feels so awkward jumping into it after finishing up the epic finale to FFX. Something about the gameplay feels clunky too.

Also, the music is terrrrrrrrrrrible.

Are you trying to get the shittier Final Fantasy games done and out of the way or something?

I've been thinking about doing a Seiken Densetsu marathon later this year. You should join in.

Damn I might have to to recover from this stuff. The SNES ones I've replayed dozens of times but it's been awhile so I could go for another round.

Just kind of hitting PS3 stuff up and all. I kid you not, but as I jumped back into Metroid Fusion and FFX for a week or so, I looked over and saw Lightning Returns sitting there... completely forgot I was even playing it. Like, totally. That never happens so it must say something.

My understanding is that once you get out of the first chapter the story starts to get more serious and less of the "chicks running around having wacky adventures". The job system and mid battle shifts does make the combat system fairly interesting, whereas with FFX you get your main party to the point of just walking over everything in your path.

So far on run #2 I got White Mage again, Berserker, and Bard. Had to power level to get past Byblos so I could do as much damage as a Drain when he had Protect up. Then about 40 battles to get my first Doom Axe, then two more for the second. The stop song is hilarious against the four small turrets, but apparently the launchers on the Sol Cannon didn't feel like being stop locked, and my berserkers didn't feel like killing them quickly, so I was sitting at around 200 HP on everyone when the surge cannon fired. Going to give it another try tomorrow.

Worst comes to worst you can give the white mage and bard hide and just hide every time the surge cannon fires. Then heal up the zerkers.

I haven't played this weekend since getting my chemist (the grinding is really off-putting). I need to get back to it next week when I'm back from my music festival.

Just started Dragon Quest VIII. What a gorgeous looking game. DQV is one of my all time favorites so I'm excited for this one.

VIII was my first DQ game and I fell in love with it. Once I get through the DS games I definitely plan to replay it.

There's something truly amazing about the world map in that game. Everything feels to scale and it truly feels like a journey from place to place. Great music certainly helps.

Well, I think a lot is going to come down to luck; do my zerkers kill off the launchers early or do they focus on the cannon? There's always the solo-style strat of giving my bard hide and an angel ring and plink away at the cannon while the missiles do effectively nothing to him, but that'll take ages. It was frustrating enough killing the Sandworm 100 health at a time.

I'm hoping I get Chemist because I've never actually used one before, and it would complete the party of "amp up the zerker and send him on his way".

Final job Dragoon, so I guess I'll toss Sing on her with the Bard having White and the White Mage having Sing, so I can triple buff at the start of a fight while my Zerker goes to town with Equip Harp (yay +8 Agi boost!). Kind of disappointed I didn't end up with team H.R. Bufnstuf, but Bard is still hilariously good in a party; I haven't actually rested at an inn or used a tent since getting to World 2 (about to do Barrier Tower) because my opponents rarely get an attack in.
