I didnt give it a ringing endorsement there, but playing it is satisfying. Held my interest for a couple hours last night.noiseredux wrote:...sounds awesome.

I almost never used arrows, spells, or other kinds of ranged weapons...I found two fighters on the front line with regularly upgraded weapons is a good strategy.Jmustang1968 wrote:Finished level 2 last night. Very straightforward and simple dungeon crawler. Combat cant get any more barebones, but thats ok. Picking up and restocking my arrows is kind of annoying. The UI is so clunky but thats to be expected.dsheinem wrote:FYI, at around the midway point you'll have the option to add and revive players, so if someone dies don't sweat it too much. I played through about 3-4 floors with a party of 3 when my mage bit it.Jmustang1968 wrote:Finally started it up and cleared the first level.
my party:
Human Paladin
Dwarf Fighter
Elf Mage/Thief
Half Elf Cleric/Ranger
Things become much less "straightforward" soon...
Which port are you playing? DOS?

Yeah, I am playing on DOSbox.
My Paladin and Fighter are front row melee. I have my wizard/thief and cleric in the back using a combination of spells/arrows/darts. This way I get more attacks.

For some reason I found that a hilarious statement.Stark wrote: Yeah the cleric can't equip them though? So she has a rock.
Dave, how was SCD port? Did your internal memory reformatting issue you mentioned on the podcast work out or does it support saving directly to RAM cart?

I liked the port, especially with the Mega Mouse. I actually ended up just backing to the RAM cart, no problems.Jagosaurus wrote:For some reason I found that a hilarious statement.Stark wrote: Yeah the cleric can't equip them though? So she has a rock.

Awesome. I've always wanted the mega mouse for a handful of games but namely Rise of the Dragon.dsheinem wrote:I liked the port, especially with the Mega Mouse. Looks like Dungeon Master II - Skullkeep also supports it. Sega CD PC ports with mouse. Nice!

Re: Together RPG - Eye of the Beholder - 5/11 --> 7/11
So I know its damn close to the end here, but I finally started this up tonight!
I'm on the sega cd version, and I didn't feel like playing this game with a controller, so instead I popped the disc into my pc and I'm running it through Kega Fusion with the mouse enabled. Works perfectly! And on that note, thank you dsh for your post earlier in the thread, which reminded me that the mouse must be connected in port 2. I couldn't get the damn thing to work before that!
So anyway, I've played a good bit and have just completed level 4, which was a bit obnoxious with the spiders and the poisoning. I also got lost for a while in level 2, which has a nasty maze near the end.
The game is stupidly fun though, if a bit clunky, and while it does provide a challenge it is nowhere near the ball buster I was expecting it to be.
It certainly has that "just one more level" quality to it as well, and even though I stopped to come and post, I think I will be tackling just one more level before I hit the sack tonight.
One last thing: the music is just outstanding. No surprise, coming from Yuzo Koshiro, but holy crap I love it.

The poisoning stuff is the worst, but there's not too much of it in the game thankfully.
Re: Together RPG - Eye of the Beholder - 5/11 --> 7/11
Wow.
So level 6, with the exception of getting bushwhacked by six of those bird bastards in the final room, wasn't bad at all.
But level 7? My god, that was a trial. Very long, treacherous with dangerous traps and powerful enemies (those skeletons...), and just plain tiring and stressful. The difficulty shot up like a rocket here.
I got some nifty new items though, so I'm happy.
Dsh, which level did you find the hardest? Am I in for a lot more pain?
Anyway, 5 levels to go.

Victory is mine!
So I played level 8 after I posted last (because despite my whining about the challenge of level 7, I had not yet had enough
) but today I shotgunned levels 9-12. Fuck mind flayers on general principle, as well as the directional puzzle that level 11 is built around and took me entirely too long to figure out. Other than that though, the home stretch went fairly smooth.
What a ride, and a great adventure.
I think I'm a little dungeon-ed out at this point (the huge underground complex is more than a little claustrophobic) but I'm very glad to have experienced such an excellent game.
One day I'll try out the sequels.
