There isn't an english option in those 2 games is there? Been thinking about getting the PS collection but I have all the Us versions on the Genesis, and the Sat collection is $30-$40 so not sure its worth importing it if it is all in Japanese.

I don't think the Saturn version has an English option.

The PS2 compilation apparently does though!

I've decided after I beat Shadow Wars on 3DS, my next game is Mystaria. On a strategy kick. Jacked to finally play this one.

That title is really good. I mean, the graphics suck (technical AND art direction, sadly) and the frame rate dips a bit all over the place, but the core game is still pretty well-designed.

http://www.amazon.com/Cyber-Acoustics-S ... .1+speaker here is the speaker setup I use on my RGB setup, for $40 shipped it sounds fantastic, max the bass and play some sega genesis on a model 1 and wow! One word of warning though, the speakers do not have the best magnetic shielding so don't put them right next to the screen or it can cause a little distortion. I just put them up on a shelf, works awesome.

you know what, my girlfriend has that exact same speaker set up sitting in her apartment, not hooked up. i should ask if she'd consider letting me "borrow" it :)

on topic, a friend came over tonight and we played Virtua Fighter 2, Baku Baku, Puzzle Bobble 2X, and Prikura Daisakusen. good times. need to get some more multiplayer games; it seems my friends hate racing games :(

My local video game store somehow ended up with a pristine, but non-working Japanese Model 1 Sega Saturn for $20 and a copy of Batsugun that they were selling for $120 (it had been marked down three times... I guess there aren't a lot of big shmup fans in my area). I've gotten extremely good at repairing pre-PlayStation 2 game consoles, so I decided to give the Model 1 a shot -- only $20 for such a cool-looking system that's hard to come by in the US, so why not? Batsugun may be my very favorite shoot-'em-up, despite the fact that most see it as a step down from the likes of Battle Garegga and DoDonPachi. The art design, the soundtrack, the character design, and maniac bullet patterns that I can actually manage have made it my most-played game on MAME -- it's just so catered to my tastes in shooters that even though I haven't been playing it for that long, I get a nostalgic feeling every time I boot it up, hear Beltiana say "OK", and listen to that amazing soundtrack. Needless to say, I had to have it, but it took some doing at a price like that.

The Model 1 was honestly the easiest fix I've ever encountered for a system being sold as "junk". I opened it up and found out that the ribbon cable was loose. I reconnected it, and everything worked perfectly! Since I had sold my original US Saturn and switched to a Model 2 JP Saturn last year, I'd been having to skip out on the incompatible games that I owned for it (Space Harrier, OutRun, King of Fighters '95, Real Bout Fatal Fury), so it was awesome to play those again. The design of the console looks absolutely amazing to me -- I had planned on selling my old Sega Saturn, but I love the white design so much that I couldn't bear to part with it. So now I've hooked the Model 1 to my rotating computer monitor through several adapters, and I have a handy little station for those incompatible games and my small collection of tate shmups, DoDonPachi, Layer Section, and now...

BATSUGUN. Basically, I gathered together a ton of the duplicate games I've amassed over the years (I'll miss you, extra copies of Seaman... all seven of you ) and got around to repairing a ton of second hand consoles. Basically spent my entire day under a pile of half-functional Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation, and Dreamcast consoles (from my "I don't know what I want out of collecting, so I'll just buy anything cheap" phase), Frankensteining parts, replacing fuses, and soldering until I had nine consoles to sell.

When all was said and done, I ended up with a ton of store credit, and picked up Batsugun with lots of credit to spare, which is how I also ended up snatching up DoDonPachi, which I hadn't expected to buy, but am enjoying the hell out of.

I'm in the process of moving (slowly) and I'm having PC issues so I can't post up pictures now, but I'll do that as soon as I can. I'm extremely happy with my new additions. Actually, I might be even more pleased with the space that I was finally able to clear up!

Huh? So certain JPN games don't run on MK1 JPN SS?

Sorry, I must have phrased it poorly, it's the MK2 that has the incompatibility issue. Only on Japanese models, if I'm not mistaken. But yeah, it surprised me when I first found out about it, too. It has something to do with some alteration to the 68000 processor. Only a very small handful of games are affected by it, and they're mostly SNK releases. A few of the games actually had re-releases that patched them up for the Model 2, but most of them don't make it so obvious that you couldn't tell without holding the disc in your hand. But that's the reason why Soukyuugurentai Otokuyou exists, for instance -- mostly as a bug-fix of the original release. The only other game I know of that has this issue is Metal Slug.

Come cool info there, I did not know Soukyugurentai behaved differently on a model 1 Saturn, nor that that was the reason for a re-release. I still love the original release, I just think its so charming that they actually had the game recognize the region and switch to terra driver, as if they actually expected people in the west to import the game.

Also, big congrats on Batsugun! I love and hate that game at the same time, although those feelings are directed more at Batsugun Special.

In case you didn't know, there is an arrange BGM built into the Saturn port (and the port includes both arcade pcbs).

Now to go for dat 4-ALL 8)
