Does anyone think the "mystery" 3DS game could just be the localization of Yo-kai Watch? The game and any related merchandise has sold gang busters in Japan and a sequel comes out this summer. It's a Level-5 property and they are really close with Nintendo. The last time Level-5 had a monster hit this size it was Nintendo that handled localization and publishing duties for the Layton games.

Just a thought that came to mind.

Yeah my bet is it's gonna be Mario Maker in conjunction with the NFC toys the company is talking about.

Because why would we want Dragon Quest VII any way that's just crazy talk.

A very valid point. Maybe it will be like Super Mario Crossover but where you get to build the stages.

I'm picturing a DIY kinda platformer not entirely unlike LittleBigPlanet, where you buy the Nintendo figurines and NFC them into the game, which in turn unlocks new tiles and characters for building from. Share your levels online with friends and all that social crap people care about.

Well for all we know nintendo could end up having multiple purposes for the nfc figures and the mario maker/3ds game could be one such purpose

I have no idea what it could be, but....if it's going to be a "star fox/metroid/f-zero" game like every fucking person in the universe is begging for well....this is what I hope it would be like (whether it actually becomes one of these remains to be seen...):

If it's Star Fox, maybe a more fleshed out version of Star Fox Assault, exploring actual worlds on foot in 3rd person view (as opposed to levels), and then travel between planets in on rails mode ala classic Star Fox? I'd be down for that, even though I'm not really a huge Star Fox fan (outside of 64 of course)

If it's Metroid.....either a nice looking 2D game, or one done in 3rd person view.

If it's F-Zero, as long as it's not a clone of the Gamecube one I'm fine.

Nintendo's E3 announcements aren't over yet: they've got a Smash Bros. Q&A/discussion planned for tonight at 7pm Pacific, and a 90-minute Q&A/discussion for "an unannounced 3DS game" planned for tomorrow night at 6pm Pacific. We'll be at both, covering the news as it happens. Here's hoping for a new 3DS Metroid or Zelda.
