Or you could get a Wii, which is more powerful and has more options for emulating, and you can always buy original controller adapters if thats what your picky about.
There is better stuff to mod than this Retron 5.
The things id like the Retron 5 for, is backing up Cart based saves, and not having to change TV inputs for other consoles.
More powerful? that is doubtful, PS1 and N64 emulation on the Wii is pitiful, Im sure the retron 5 would be perfectly capable emulating PC engine, the PC engine emulators on the Wii just flat out suck. Not to mention there is not a Sega Genesis controller adapter for the Wii, there is one for the gamecube but it is no longer produced and nearly impossible to find. Of course you could just build your own if your handy enough. I too am excited to see this become a slick convenient emulation box. The UI looks great! Much better than what you have to deal with on the wii.
Also the Wii doesn't have HDMI, or the ability to add scanlines (unless you hook it up to an XRGB-mini)

Well the Wii RetroPad Adapter 2 by Bruno Freitas exists, but it is a custom build and a premium product.

You hardware purists and your overpriced scanline producer.
Going to hold you to your words about the Retron 5 being more powerful than a Wii, i mean for $100 and from a 3rd party console hardware company, i dont imagine it being that powerful.

Sorry Hazard I guess I should rephrase that, no I don't think the Retron 5 is a more powerful console than the Wii, what I meant is that it will be better at emulation than the Wii. Since that is really what it was designed to do. Just because a console is more powerful doesn't mean that it is better at emulation, just look at the oXbox vs the Wii in emulation, the oXbox beats it hands down and it is technically a less powerful console. The oXbox is basically a Windows PC which emulators were designed to run on in the first place where the Wii hackers had to make custom emulators specifically for it.

I can imagine playing Street Fighter Turbo (SNES) on a 6 button Genesis controller however. Best port of the game and the best controller to play it on, that's a great combo.
Best port is on the 3DO BUT I definitely agree the 6 button Genesis controller would be amazing for SNES fighters.

Playing SNES fighters with the Genesis 6 button pad is amazing! I've been in on that since I got my Super Retro Trio.
