Yes, I'm guilty of this. When you get down to brass tacks, I'd rather put up with all the delays and have a flawless product than one that was rushed to meet a deadline was a piece of shit.

Although I don't think Hyperkin is totally unaccountable. It's their name on the product, so right or wrong they (should) own some accountability. The buck has to stop with them.

According to funstock.co.uk (email posted on Hyperkin's facebook) -

We are contacting you regarding your pre-order of the Retron 5 console.

Great News!

We have finally received confirmation from Hyperkin that the first RetroN 5 units will be coming off the production line next month and should be with us by the end of June.

We have also had the final specifications confirmed and the system has been treated to a number of upgrades, including:

Amplified Chipsets delivering faster performance
Better compatibility
Improved build quality and design
Upgraded operating system and GUI

What this does mean is that the RRP of the unit is expected to increase but as a loyal customer of Funstock who has waited so long for your system we are pleased to confirm that we will honour the original price you paid and ensure you remain one of the first people in the world to get hold of a RetroN 5.

We are very grateful for your patience and apologise again for the fact we have been unable to keep you better informed over the past few months.

But with the end in sight and this great news we are hoping we can all start looking forward to what will be a fantastic addition to Retro Scene.

Thank you
Andy Pearson
Funstock.co.uk

So that means that with Hyperkin's new global release strategy, that at least nearly all territories should have it by the end of June. We can only hope.

Didnt they say earlier it would be 100% compatible? How do we go to 101% compatibility?

Blast Processing!! It's the only answer.

Seriously though, good question.

I don't really know much about the Super Retro Trio. Can you break it down for me? What's it cost? What's it play out of the box? What can it play w/ further adapters and how much are they? Are these things still readily available? (I feel like I had looked into a system like this w/ various adapters in the past, but most adapters were sold out).
It's a clone system that plays SNES/SFC, NES and Genesis/Megadrive games. It runs via NOAC. Compatibility seems very good. It handles Mega Man X2/X3 and Street Fighter Alpha 2 quite well. It runs about $70. It has a GBA adapter which works like the Super Gameboy did. The GBA adapter works with all SNES and clones but requires external cables. When used with the Retro Trio, it outputs video via the system outputs. The Super Retro Trio doesn't upscale but its display is a bit sharper than my SNES via composite cable. As my Genesis seems to be dying and I don't own an NES, it covers my needs.

If the Retron 5 turns out to be the system of my dreams, I'll pay the extra $40 and then use the Retro Trio as a travel system.

Apparently it will run SMS games with the PBC attached that an actual Genesis with a PBC attached will not run.

PBC is Power Base Converter, yes? I thought the Retron 5 played SMS games in the Genesis slot? So that would make the PBC moot. Unless you wanted it on there for nostalgic purposes?

Anyone got a pic of a Sega Genesis with a PBC, 32X and a Sega CD attached? What a monstrosity that would be.

No. Need the PBC on the R5 to play SMS.

You can't connect a PBC to the 32X, it outright won't fit.
