Want to Feel Old? PS2 vs NES Launch Timeline

Post by Jagosaurus »

The NA launch of the PS2 hits 14 years ago this October. Wow, makes me feel old, but wait....

When the PS2 was released in NA (Oct 2000), the NA NES was 15 years old (October '85).

Essentially, the NES was as old then... as the PS2 is now (one year variance). Let it sink in...

That's right, the NES officially turns 30 next year. The same year I do.

The Simpsons began as shorts on the Tracy Ullman Show.

Wow I remember it like it was yesterday sitting in math class in 8th grade hearing my friends talking about how excited they were to go pick up their PS2s after school got out, and how little I cared because I had just gotten Pokemon Gold and that was all I cared about at the time. Then the next year as a freshman in highschool I got an Xbox and Halo and then the PS2 was completely forgotton in my mind. I actually didn't end up getting a PS2 until Senior year and it was a slim model as a birthday present with GTA San Andreas.

Now I feel really old...

Don't remind me, I already feel old as it is remembering just about everything that i've played in the nearly 20 years I've been alive. I don't need to remember these bits of information to remind me how old i am

It is sad though, when you can honestly remember when all the systems and handhelds from 90's(since I'm a 90's kid) were new and counted as the top of the line stuff. It's even worse when you want to go on a "back in my day" rant  But to be honest, I actually only played a ps2 up to this point at my church(for some odd reason we had a ps2 and kingdom hearts(I never discover good series by owning them myself and this series I have some serious collecting to do on besides it I and II, re:coded, and re:chain of memories as well as many ps2/psx series and games to collect)
My gameroom
My systems: NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, original gba, gba sp(001), ds lite, 3ds, vita, psp, PSone(101 model) ps2, ps3(320gb model), ps4, retron 5, and Dreamcast.

It's ok, we all can't be perfect.

1986 should be a pretty killer year, I'll have to take a look and see.
