Re: How Long is Your Drive/Commute to Work?
Looks like we have everything from 5 mins to an hour. I'm not counting you work @ home folks as we all want to kick you...
My old job I was working 70 hours a week & driving roughly 20 mins each way. Even with driving 45 mins now (before my move to a closer location, shaving about 10 min off each way), I'm working around 43 hours a week now + my drive got longer.... but I gained about 23ish hours free time a week lol (essentially an entire day!) when you add work + drive time & I dig my job. Sometimes the gig is worth it.
I feel you guys in Seattle. Houston traffic is also a beast. 1,000 ppl move to TX each day, roughly 70% of that is to Houston. Roads are getting very crammed.

I suppose I luck out. I can literally see my job from my upstairs window. So at most a 5 minute walk...
...which means I have a tough time calling out due to how close I live.

Stay-at-home dad.
When I hear "dada" in the morning it takes me about 10 seconds to walk to my daughter's room.
When I worked at an elementary school it would generally take about 30 minutes to get there (one way). It was about 17 miles or so.

It's about a 30-minute walk for me. Get some good exercise there and back, it's nice.

Bonez, no kids yet for me but jealous
Adam, wow, taxis I've rode in are stupid expensive. I complain about my $1 EZ Tag toll road fee
Catnip, nice. Wish I could bike to work. Too hot in Texas 95% of the time any way lol

Haha, I've got the opposite problem - in VT, there's snow on the ground at least 5-6 months out of the year. About a month ago, it was around -15 or so, and last week we got about 20 inches of snow. The past three months have been me walking up ice-slicked sidewalks, praying I don't tear an ACL xD but soon! In two short months, the snow and ice will be gone!! Hooray!Jagosaurus wrote:Bonez, no kids yet for me but jealous

Re: How Long is Your Drive/Commute to Work?
I'm pretty lucky. I live only a ten minute drive away from my weekday job. I often spend more time looking for parking than I do driving. When the weather is nice, I can bicycle or walk to work. It's about a thirty minute walk from my front door to my office.
My weekend job is in another town about 50 minutes away. I don't really like that commute, but my weekend job is fun. It comes with fringe benefits.

I have a 5 minute walk to work. Shortest commute I've ever had, and it rocks.

takes me about 10-15 minutes. i work and live downtown so it's basically all dependent on traffic any given day.
biking takes me about 20-30 minutes, depending on which route i take and how sweaty i want to get before i get to work. we have a really nice downtown bike infrastructure (here's a nice article on it if you're interested)
if i take the bus it takes about 45 min to an hour total, but that includes walking to the nearest stop, waiting for the one transfer that i have to take and walking from the stop on campus to my office. our bus system is getting better but it's still pretty inefficient as it stands.
