It's SEGA Genesis Month at SEGAbits

Post by Barry the Nomad »

To celebrate 25 years of the SEGA Genesis, we've dubbed March "Genesis Month" at SEGAbits. Why March instead of August, the true anniversary month? We didn't want to wait 8 months, and several of the milestone anniversary months for SEGA consoles take place in the Fall, so we wanted to space things out. We'll still do some stuff throughout the year, including August, but right now our focus is on March.

We're about halfway through Genesis Month, and I wanted to share with you guys what we've done and tell you what we have planned.

A.J. Rosa's YouTube series My Life with SEGA, which is exclusive to our channel, is without a doubt a highlight of the month. A.J. has a three part retrospective planned, with part 1 reviewing the first game, part 2 featuring a co-op play session, and part 3 focusing on the sequels:

Part 1 -
Part 2 -

Streets of Rage will receive more focus next week, as we dedicate 3/17-2/23 to the franchise.

We also have several interview podcasts lined up, the first of which is WaterMelon Video Games President Tulio Gonçalves (the man behind Pier Solar and Pier Solar HD for the Genesis/Mega Drive and Dreamcast):

Future interviews include Darren Wall of the SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis: Collected Works Kickstarter book, and a SEGA legend who will probably have to be interviewed just after Genesis Month (which means we might make it a month and a half long celebration).

Other Genesis Month content can be found here, including Retro Reviews and Genesis focused written features: http://segabits.com/blog/tag/genesis-month/

Hope you all check it out, and please let me know what you think of the content and what you'd like to see in the future from us!

I haven't visited any your sites for *way* too long. I'm gonna dive into them again right now! Good to see you again. BTW, you introduced me to this site back in 2008 (some post about the cheapest Dreamcast VGA adapter on the Dreamcast Junkyard) while I was pouring over the incredible amount of details you dumped into every blog post. I owe ya one!

Same here, lol. The fact that the Dreamcast is now deemed retro gives me gray hairs...

Hey man! Yeah, SEGAbits is my latest focus. I still contribute to The Dreamcast Junkyard on occasion, but I've mainly been writer/designer/editor at SEGAbits since 2011. We have a few DCJY all-stars coming on as contributing writers at SEGAbits - so it definitely has a bit of the Junkyard DNA.

We're looking to give the Dreamcast a LOT of focus in June, with a live panel at Too Many Games in Oaks, PA, as well as a Dreamcast month in September during which we hope to interview several icons from the Dreamcast era.

This week we're focusing on Streets of Rage. Currently we have an announcement article: http://segabits.com/blog/2014/03/17/gra ... egins-now/

We also have an interview with Darren Wall, creator of the SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis: Collected Works Kickstarter book - the article features exclusive Streets of Rage development images from Darren: http://segabits.com/blog/2014/03/17/int ... documents/

Tomorrow we have a podcast with Darren, focusing on his book and Streets of Rage, as well as some more surprises. I'll make sure to update this post when articles go up!
