Ok, so maybe I'm ignorant about the PS2, but I just hooked up my PS2 with my minty fresh chinese knock off component cables, threw in my newly arrived PS1 game hit power aaaaand no picture after the PS1 logo. I get sound but that's it. I threw in another PS1 game and same deal. PS2 games look and work great as does the system's menu.
As I typed this, the game finally got to the menu after the demo and it showed up, but I think that's because its a static screen. If there is movement on the screen it doesn't show up.
Also, my wireless PS2 controller seems to not work when a PS1 game is loaded, the receiver and controller lights just blink like crazy. Is my PS2 screwed up?

Re: PS1 on PS2 with Component and Wireless Controller
I read in another thread that PS1 games don't work in PS2s hooked up via component. It's a hardware issue, your PS2 is not screwed. If you try it via composite they should work fine.
Don't know about wireless controllers.

nope ps1 DOES work with component but most likely your TV doesnt. Most TV sets especially modern ones will not support 240p over component. My HDTV says Resolution not supported, but it works great on my hdcrtNyukki wrote:I read in another thread that PS1 games don't work in PS2s hooked up via component. Re: PS1 on PS2 with Component and Wireless Controller
If I recall correctly PS1 games on a PS2 via component output at 240P, you TV most likely does not support the resolution.
EDIT: ninjainspandex beat me to it.

Re: PS1 on PS2 with Component and Wireless Controller
Two things could be wrong. Either A) Those cheap Chinese knock off cables don't support 240p or B) Your TV doesn't support 240p.
The reason why it displays the menu after the demo is because some PS1 menu screens change to 480i resolution. This also explains why PS2 games display fine. Almost all PS2 games display in 480i.
So either buy different cables like the Official Sony Brand component cables or try a different TV.
As for the controller I'm guessing it's not compatible with PS1 games. Not 100% sure on that one as I've always used the wired controller.

Re: PS1 on PS2 with Component and Wireless Controller
Hmmm......
I am doing the same thing as you. and its working fine for me!
But, here's what I got.
Samsung LCD TV, a phat ps2. Logitech Cordless Action Controler. Official Sony Component cables.
But, when I put in a PS1 game, at the PS1 logo skips for about a second and then it goes straight into the game. THere is a black screen for about a second. thats it.
I tried two games and they worked fine. They were WIPEOUT and RAIDEN PROJECT
My PS2 is softmodded. For a second, I thought maybe it was something to do with the soft mod that made those games play.
So I pulled out the Memory card and turned it on like a normal PS2. I put in the RPG THREADS OF FATE, and it still played like I explained before.
So do you have a slim PS2 or an original?
I think it may be your Chinese Knockoff cables.
Maybe, try changing your video settings on your PS2? Just make sure to have your composite cables nearby. When you change the video settings, sometimes you cant change them back temporarily. you need the composite cables to force the video back to the previous settings.

Re: PS1 on PS2 with Component and Wireless Controller
After taking cue's from your all's advice, I checked into my AVR and what resolutions it will accept over component. Sure enough, it will only accept as low as 480i. So, that is the culprit. So, I guess it is back to the PS3 for PS1 games for me.
Thanks for the info guys!

Re: PS1 on PS2 with Component and Wireless Controller
@ frag, it should support 240i, just not progressive. It'll work with s-vid or composite
Wireless will work. I do it often on ps1 titles on my PS2.
