Fire Emblem Awakening Question Thread

Post by Jagosaurus »

As I shared I am really wanting to dive into SRPGs in 2014. I'm on chapter 7 of FE:A & can already tell I'm addicted...

I generally dislike walkthroughs but have found myself goggling a few things online regarding the game mechanics. Then I remembered several of you guys are FE veterans so I can ask the group.

1. How do I check my weapons durability?
2. What is the blue bar under my weapon (not durability?)
3. Best way to get gold to grind in side quest?
4. How do I change classes? Assume it comes later.

Looking forward to mastering this one. Great so far! ....story & gameplay. So much depth.

1. There will be a number beside the individual weapons in your inventory; that's the number of uses left.
2. This is the weapon class on the character sheet, and it indicates how much experience you have in that weapon class. Weapons have a minimum experience level to use.
3. There's a specific piece of DLC that's designed for grinding, one for exp and one for gold. Aside from those the random units that spawn on the map (which I am not sure you have unlocked yet) are the best.
4. There are two items, one for promotion and one for class change. The first few you get through drops, then they become buyable in shops.

Thanks Popo! I was taking bets on who would respond... yourself, Bonez, or JMustang lol.

Will likely have a few more questions as I progress. Just bought a seal to upgrade a character to an advanced class @ level 10.

Any advice or how to use it wisely?

are you playing casual or normal?

When I played, I took them all the way to level 20 before I promoted them.

Just changing them at level 10 leaves out a lot of potential.

Depending on which type of game your playing, this could be easy or hard.

Also there are two types of seals. There's one where you can upgrade them to the next class, and another that can change them to any other class.

So you can change your knight into a magician or an archer into a cavalier.

Experiment with this, but dont forget to save before you do this. You dont want to change a character into something you may not like, and regret it cause you saved. And now you cant change back without starting the game over.

Or with that other seal you can keep them the same class, just take them back to level one. I did this later in the game when all my characters were maxed out.

But dont worry about this untill much later.

They (seals) may seem rare early in the game but they become real common later.

Honestly unless you're playing on hard you should just promote as soon as possible. Unlike most Fire Emblems you have unlimited level ups thanks to the Second Seals, so you can always hit your stat caps with enough effort.

First time with a FE game so I went casual! Had a couple characters die already so I'm glad I did lol

Thanks man, seal I bought:
Master Seal (gold and red)
Promotes a base class at LV 10 to an advanced class.

.... guessing this is the one where you keep your class? It bumps you down to level 1? yikes.

Thanks man, will do on this play through.

It bumps your level down to 1, but you keep all your stats (and in fact, you gain several from promoting). So the only thing that has changed is that the amount of exp you gain will be high, since the equation is just a comparison of your level and the enemy's level.

Promoting adds +20 to your internal level for experience calculations, so you get less exp by promoting too early.

However, I agree that on Normal mode, this game is easy enough that you should promote fairly early anyhow.

Looking back I've come a long way in understanding the FE:A mechanics! I'll likely have a few more ?s along the way though.

Can you guys explain the second seal? The downstream (+ & -) impacts? Do I use it to simply convert classes, ie make a Mage a Knight, etc?

Thanks in advance.

Each unit has 3 classes it can become. Second seals allow you to change a unit to another class. An example would be Chrom, who can become a cavalier or an archer if I recall correctly.

Your stats will take a slight hit, but only 1 or 2 points per stat. Your level will be lowered to 1, so you'll gain experience faster.

Whilst you're unpromoted, or less than level 5 promoted, you can only use a second seal to change to a base class (eg. knight, archer, mage) whereas beyond level 5 promoted you can use it to reclass into a different promoted class aswell (eg. General, Sniper, Sage).

Also, every character has a default % chance of getting a stat boost in each stat upon levelling, which is added to the classes % chance of gettign a stat boost to give an overall chance (eg. if chrom has a 30% chance to gain HP, and Lords have a 30% chance, he has a total of 60%). Reclassing can be used to help get stat points in stats they'd struggle with otherwise. For example, making Miriel a Dark Mage covers her crap defence a bit, and making Kellam a theif can help his slow speed.

Basically, there is very little disadvantage to reclassing, and quite a few advantages (faster levelling for a while, extra skills).
