What platformer are you playing now?
Re: What platformer are you playing now?
I just got the 3DS version, I'm interested to see what is different from the Wii version. I'm already on board with no Wii controls.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

I think pretty darn well IMO. I see it as DKCR they removed more features than added them. Plus it's also important to consider level design quality and controls.dunpeal2064 wrote:ts nothing like the older games... and I am thankful for that. If it had just tried to copy/paste the formula and spirit of the older games... it STILL wouldn't have been a touch on them. I mean, look at DKC 3. It was a solid game, that stuck to the formula pretty well... and so few people play it compared to the first 2 games. How do you think DKCR would have stacked up if it would have followed suit?

Playing through SNES Super Mario World. Started the game today & on the Valley of Bowsers.
I actually have never personally beat this. Sat with my cousin as kids while he beat it. I'm only 2 decades behind
great game.

Busy with 'Todd's Adventures in Slime World' on the Atari Lynx.
So far I'm enjoying it. It has a neat co-op feature as well. I'm putting that comlynx cable to good use.

Re: What platformer are you playing now?
I just realized last night that I am currently playing four platformers:
Drill Dozer (GBA) - This is a very unique platformer developed by GameFreak (i.e., the developer of the Pokemon games). It has a very "GBA" feel to it, and I suspect that it uses the Wario Land 4 engine. Its not the most compelling game on the system, but I like it a lot and expect to complete it soon.
LittleBigPlanet: GOTY Edition (PS3) - My daughter wanted me to play it last week, and now she insists that I play it with her for a few minutes every day. While I think that the art direction is great, the platforming mechanics have not yet won me over. She thinks its great, however; so, I am moving through this one pretty quickly.
Lost in Shadow (Wii) - This is a very quiet - perhaps a bit too quiet - 2D platformer from Hudson. It draws its artistic inspiration from Ico, but it is not nearly as compelling as that game. It is much, much more challenging however, and I am working my way through it slowly. (I am currently taking a break from it to play through Wario Land: Shake It!) The "shadow" mechanics are interesting, but since they are already starting to wear, I am not sure they will be able to carry me through the game's 15 hour(!) adventure. (I think that this will end up being a game that I chip away at through out the year.)
Wario Land: Shake It! (Wii) - This game is great. I am plowing through it, and it may end up as my second-favorite game in the Wario Land series. (Wario Land 3 is going to be tough to beat.) The animation is spectacular, and like the best modern Nintendo games, the challenge scales based on your goals. (Beating the game is easy; getting all of the treasures is a true challenge, and only patient, seasoned players should even consider completing all of the challenges.) It is very well designed, and I am surprised it is not as popular as some of the Wii's other 2D platformers.

Legendary Axe - TG16/PCE. I have always wanted to play it and finally sat down and got started on it last night. Playing it with an arcade stick makes it alittle more difficult, but the game is gorgeous and brilliant for the time of its release. Sadly it also has the pitfalls of cheap hits into instant deaths. So it did take me about ten restarts to get through stage 3. If you take out the cheap hits into pits, the game would be one of the best platformers ever made. But more importantly, it has whetted my appetite for more TG16/PCE games, the Bonk trilogy is up next.

Re: What platformer are you playing now?
Some good picks here - many of them are on my "must play" list for later this year.
I'm currently playing Super Mario All-Stars. I've finished Mario 1/Lost Levels/2 and I'm in World 6 of Mario 3. After that I plan on taking on Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, and Super Mario Land 2 (I beat the first one last month).
In the upcoming months I hope to get to playing Lost in Shadow, Legendary Axe, and Drill Dozer...

I plan on diving into the GBA library sometime soon and Drill Dozer was a game that really caught my eye.
